problem: car wont start now (clicking)

hi recently ive had the problem of the car not starting straight away it just clicks when u turn the ignition and takes alot of atempts(its not the battery because its been fully recharged and theres enough volts),the other day when i tryed it a few times it made a little noise like it was going to start and then went dead and now it doesnt even click and i could smell some burning ....would this be my starter motor gone? anyone got any ideas?

Starter motor bushes maybe mate yes.

Knackered battery, try another one even if it is fully charged.

 

Or if you could smell burning while starting the starter motor could be knackered as greg says.

 

I would try the cheaper option first with a new or borrowed battery

Im 99% sure it would be :-

 

1. Flat battery

2. Battery terminals.

 

Clean and refix the Battery terminal is my Educated gues..

I had the exact problem last week... changed the battery and haven't heard the starter motor click yet. Fingers crossed

I reckon it could be the starter motor contacts. You can refurb them without buying a whole new motor. I think there's a howto in the FAQ section.

all sorted now was the starter motor bought a new one at £200 and had it towed and fitted for £30 so starts up every time now
