Basically it was fine yesterday but today I went to play with some bikes so dropped it 4th and the car pulled on boost but I kept getting hesistation then pull then hesistation all the way up the revs from 4k. It seems fine in 1st and 2nd just higher up with more prolonged boost also there was no warning light or smoke. The last time I had this it was plugs so I fitted denso platinum ones (stock Boost) and changed all the clips. I did notice the last time that the coil packs had cracks on them so this has got me wondering if they finally given up. Not had a look yet as the cars too hot the now. edge Posted April 4, 2007 Share Posted April 4, 2007 I took my plugs out and gave them a clean, degrease , wire brush etc and the car ran great for a while but i get new plugs tomorrow as they need changing. Worth a clean as its cheap and fairly easy to do. Yeah sounds good mate and I can check the condition at the same time for probs. Apparantly these plugs are good for 60k too. Think i'll have to wait a couple of days as my other car is sitting in the garage in bits too. All happens at once doesn't it. Does anyone know if you can get aftermarket coil packs? Mike M Posted April 6, 2007 Author Share Posted April 6, 2007 Well just checked all the plugs and they all look good with 1.1mm gaps and good colouring. The first 3 closest to the front could have been tighter so that wont be helping. Looks like every coilpack has a big dirty crack on it starting from the end and working its way back:( I'm guessing this would be like a damaged HT lead where the spark could jump. In my case the car ran fine until tubbie No2 kicked in. Got new plugs now and its a different car. Is cracking on the coil packs a common thing? Yeah mate mine is fine full throttle till about 3500 then pulls back and lets go up till 5000 then seems to clean up from there but not pulling like I know it. Failing that I would borrow a known-good coil pack and try that in each position. Coil pack problems are pretty rare in stock/BPU cars but more common with singles. Also check all your vacuum hoses. It the hose to the FPR has come off it makes the car misfire like that. (And then melts a piston if you keep pushing it, as I found out) On the plus side if you own a VVTI then they are cheaper and you only need 3 apparantly.Is yours a VVTi then, Mike? No unfortunately not lol just a plain old 93. tbh i've been wanting to change the coils for over a year now and after seeing the state of them today I've taken the plunge as I may be going single in the future. Do halfords do those NGKs? I've no reason really to doubt the Denso Pk20 somthings that are in there unless a dodgy coil pack has overheated a plug. Mike M Posted April 8, 2007 Author Share Posted April 8, 2007 Well I tried the NGK's BCPR7ES today and felt an improvement. The pulling back has gone to a gentle bump bump somtimes. (Do I replace all the packs or just get 1, I cant decide) I also fixed the seq system by finding the EGCV plug was not on right. Only found this as no2 failed to come on atall. Finally another problem was I found a big kink in the wastgate vsv supply hose and it was completely blocked.(not good) Bloody silicon hose. So the original hose is back on and No1 sounds fine although a bit quieter now. And the V power doesn't have take a battering doing all these test runs.
