02 vs T-Mobile - input please

I've been with 02 for 13 years now, mainly due to being lazy, but I'm considering a change to T-Mobile. My 02 contract comes up for renewal in a month so if I'm going to cancel I need to do it before Thursday.

Basically the phone I want is available from both companies (T-Mobile MDA Compact III / 02 XDA Orbit) but T-Mobile offer a better choice of Tariffs - 02 only offer 1mb of data as part of a £35 / month offer but T-Mobile give unlimited web & email for £37.50 a month, I don't have any friends so text / inclusive minutes isn't much of a factor but the T-Mobile deals seem much more sensible anyway (I'm thinking Flext Web & Walk 35+)

I presume I can move my number to T-Mobile (obviously I haven't had to do this as I've had the same number for 13 years) but are they OK to deal with?

I'd be interested to hear about any interesting experiences :)

Yeah T-Mobile are not bad at all, you can take your current number over to them too you just have to get a PAC code from O2 and give it to tmobile. it takes a couple of weeks.

Their good as the online billing updates usually 2-3 mins after a call too so you can keep track of things and reception is usually good too.

I've been with Orange for 11 years and no real problems.... all the packages seem to about the same across networks these days..

I pay £35 a month and that gets me 900 x-network minutes, 300 texts, 50 mms and unlimited calls to landlines... but I get a good deal on Broadband too... £5 a month, fastest speed you phone line can handle, unlimited downloads (and they mean it) and an VoiceIP slot in the router so we can call anywhere in the UK and 100+ countries free at any time.. oh, and a free wireless router.. and free support from you mobile... it's all good.

I think the flex plans on T-mobile are the best around,im paying £30 a month and get something like £180 worth of credit to use on either calls, texts or however you like. Only problem with T-mobile is their phone range is rubbish but for contracts they are good. 02 on the other hand don't really offer any price plans for a similar price that come close to what T-mobile offers.

as Mike says Orange aren't bad at all if they're an alternative for you, i've been with them for around ten years now.

I was actually going to cancel my orange contract due to them basically not having to or trying to do anything to keep me but once i said i was going to cancel they pulled out a few stops and got me a cracking deal.

Speak to O2, tell them you're going to cancel and 99 times out of 100 they'll bend over backwards to keep you.

Got an Orbit on o2 a few weeks back and like you tried both stores. The deciding factor for me was quite simply the sales pitch.

T-Mobile were full on giving it the big sales pitch, i walked out!

o2 just left me to it, answered my questions, threw in some BT headsets and aways I went.

Good luck which ever way you go, cracking piece of kit (TT6 works a treat on it).

Cheers

I called O2 a few moments ago for a PAC so I could switch - this is one of the reason they annoy me...

Chappy who answered passed me through to a woman in cancellations, as soon as I mentioned the PAC request she went into high pressure sales mode, asked about the T-Mobile deal, tried to match it using combinations of packages and bolt-ons, offered me the phone for free but with no Sat Nav software (which is being bundled free anyway - WTF!) and then generally rambled about them being able to offer me more when they can't.

In the end she had settled on the phone for free or £49.99 with Sat Nav software and £40 a month with a 5mb data package in comparison to T-Mobile @ £37.50 with the phone for £39.99 including CoPilot software. So after 10 minutes of telling me she was doing a great package as they value my custom I got offered the same as a new customer would and less than T-Mobile offer... Mmmm.

The software doesn't bother me too much as I'd probably run TT6 anyway but it's the principle of it :)

I had to leave it at that as my head hurt but T-Mobile still seem to be winning, Orange don't have the phone available as yet unfortunately and that's one of the selling points for me.

I've now cancelled 02 and requested a PAC - T-Mobile look like my next port of call but I've since discovered that their version of the Orbit, the MDA Compact III, doesn't have WiFi *sigh*

So now I'm thinking about the Nokia N95, I'll lose Windows in favour of Symbian but I'll gain WiFi and 3G / HSDPA and get a better camera.

I just wish I could combine the features of all the phones I like and the providers that interest me into one package... and pay £10... asking too much? ;)

I bought the N95 last night, so far I'm very impressed with it - the only bad thing was the lack of "token gesture" memory, they don't even bundle a 256mb card with it so until you spend more money you are stuck with the internal memory.

GPS seems OK with the basic mapping software included, WiFi works well, camera is excellent, games are a huge jump from what I'm used to. I might regret moving away from the Windows / PDA style stuff but the only thing I'm missing at the moment is the big screen on the XDA.

M700 looks nice, I couldn't see any plans I liked on Orange though and the unlimited HSDPA on "Web & Walk" with T-Mobile is very handy.

If you move about the country mate, stick to O2. Second in coverage to Vodafone. T mobile tariffs are attractive but they have this postcode thing going on to see if they have cover. If they have to ask??????? Luck. :)

I've been on o2 since about 1996/1997 - well - saying that I was actually with Genie at that time, but o2 have since bought them out.

They've been fantastic - bar the odd contract bill cockup - but it's USUALLY been rectified the following month.

However - I will NEVER change contract ever again, as mine is beyond excellent.... so here I'm going to boast about it :)

I get:

600mins, anytime, any network all FREE

600txts, anytime, any network all FREE

New upgrade phone every year.

Oh, and I forgot - some random amount of internet/WAP usage - but i never use it so have no idea lol

All for the grand sum of - £15 a month. :D:D:D

The best bit is I've had the same handset for 2 years now - both replacement free upgrades have been sold brand new on ebay for well over £100 - paying for my entire years mobile bill :)

Anyway, boast over now - it's totally irrelevant to this thread!

I'm tempted by the N95 myself, although I originally thought I'd get something smaller than the 6280 I have at the moment. Trouble is most phones don't really seem to have moved on much in the last year so I don't really see anything else that's "better" than what I already have.

5MP & GPS does sound cool though, could you post some sample photo's from it by any chance?

I haven't taken any yet but there are some samples on these sites:

Nothing amazing but a 100 times better than my XDA :)

Thanks, although I'd have just said "No I haven't try google you lazy &$^%" :D

They look pretty damn good, less noise than my 6280 and with the shear size of the 5MP images you get away with not noticing it much. Looks like an N95 it is then :)
