RWD series 1 RS Turbo

The other night whilst out taking the fiancee's car for diesel I was passing the exit to our local cinema (in basingstoke) when a white series 1 came out the slip road in front of me, and as he pulled into my lane the back end came out quite nicely.. I pulled a little closer to notice what looked like some sort of frame mounting a diff. We got onto the roundabout at the end and he easily went sideways round it, with what looked like little effort.

Anyone know of this car? Think it was a A or B reg with a big cage inside, running a cossy lump?

Was definately interesting to watch!

Yeah it would have been a Gartrac S1 cossie. Beasts. Only a couple over here now though.

Is that a genuine Red S1 ? If so, weren't there only 2 or 3 of them made for Royal Mail to race, one or two made it to the road :)

35K for that Gartrac s1 in the pic Jezz, would ya? lol

Still prefer the g3 conversion with the engine in the boot, works out a lot cheaper :D

I'd have a Gartrac S2 but wouldnt pay the silly money they fetch. Still a ford at the end of the day. Part of the reason i never bought my mrs the escort cossie she wanted was because its still a ford.

Lol. The royal mail ones had massive lorry intercoolers on the front. Looked ridiculous, but went like poo off a shovel.

I had a Series 1 RST when I was 18 and was really good fun!!

They only ever made them in White tho (apart from the Royal Mail few :sly: )

I had mine painted Imperial Blue and loved it (prefered it to the Series 2's)

brings back a lot of nostalgia (sp?) :D

I know this isn't a Series One but a rwd Series Two RST and a not so great driver by the looks of things. I had a Series One - rare D-plate, loved its style but that fear of not ever knowing if you were going to get where you wanted without breaking down I hated. Not that it ever did, just felt like it probably would let me down. And it was quite standard and not all that quick but that may have been because I was paranoid about thrashing it.
