Hitting Early Rev limiter Intermittently

Since going 6 speed (well i think that's the underlying cause) Ive been hitting the rev limiter at about 5500rpm.

Initially i thought plugs. I Put brand new IK24's in and it happened twice when i went for a drive after changing them.

But, after that it didn't happen once and i hit just before the redline every time. probably about 10 times i tried it.

What do you reckon guys? Is it the fact I'm still on an Auto ECU? A Loose connection somewhere?

I once had a mysterious rev limiter in 1st gear and 1st gear only, back with the hybrids and an Apexi sAFC. Once I junked the sAFC (which went wrong bigtime anyway) it went away. Oh, I also had no apparent rev limit either. Which is impossible to do with an sAFC but it surfaced once I'd gotten rid of it. Bizarre

So have you got anything plumbed into your airflow signal line?

Is this still happening?? sounds similar to a bad gapped plugs under high boost (i.e. spark blow out)

Ive changed the plugs last weekend for brand new IK 24's

It happened once after changing them and then was fine all day.

Today - Its happening again in every gear (don't know about 5th or 6th as that licence loosing territory!)

I'm really fed up of it. Was fine all last year and since Ive brought the car out this year its started happening (or since going 6 speed??)

Ian,

I don't have an SAFC no, the only thing plumbed into the AFM connector now is the Intake Air Temp sensor for my map ECU. Which has been there since i went single :shurg:

Can you do a datalog on the MAPECU to see if it shows anything up, could be a case of bad wiring etc etc.

Coilpack/coilpack connectors do throw the same type problems but its more a miss or break up, your problem sounds a bit more than that?

I can do datalogging on my laptop but my laptop battery dies after about 5 mins without AC lead in

A couple of the coilpack connector clips are broken (i.e. they dont lock on) but they have been like that since i got the car 4 or 5 years ago.

The coilpacks are 130,000 miles old?????

Scott, if you fancy a drive to Ringwood, you can try mine just to eliminate (also ignitor)
