michael
I've got a bit of a dillema at the moment, since fitting the Eibachs I've not had a chance to get a full alignment done which now means I need two front tyres due to excessive wear on the inner edges - a good 5mm or more over the rest of the tyre and bald on the inside Anyway cash is a little tight but I have a selection of tyres in the garage that I was intending to use on track, one pair I have are 255/40/17's At the moment I have 245/45/17's on the front on standard wheels with 275/40's on the back - can anyone see any huge issues with 255's up front? Anyone running 255's already on standard or non-standard alloys? Then I need to find a decent alignment place locally.... on that subject I still haven't managed to find a list of the standard settings, just this which seems to be one a lot of people here have used. Paul Laing
Michael, i run 255's on the front although mine are on 19s and but they don't rub. Not sure if this helps at all. Paul

I'm glad I got them anyway, just wish I'd not been so tight and missed out on the alignment!
AJI
I'd only be worried about the strain on the power steering with running 255 width. A couple of people on this site have had 255 on the front and I can't recall seeing any posted problems.
michael
I'll give them a go and see what happens, if they screw with the handling I should have some 235/45/17's kicking around somewhere.

Im in total agreement with this, the other thing i have found is they make the car feel far more progressive as you apporach the limits of traction and sanity:cool:

Matt Harwood
As for the alignment settings, personally, I prefer stock settings. Although Lance's settings have improved tyre wear, it hasn't really altered their life span much. I've got 11,000 miles from my previous set of tyres, before they needed changing, and I'm now on 9,500 and they're on the wear markers. I'm sure everyone has their own preference, but I will be going back to the stock settings. I've found the front a bit more positive on turn in, but not enough to be sure if it's not just my imagination. The rear is now far more tail happy, and at high speeds the car doesn't feel as stable as it used to. Obviously I'm not an aggressive driver

I put the 255 next to a 245 tonight and the difference seems tiny so hopefully I'll be OK, worth a try in the short term anyway, I should be able to swap them for some new ones at the end of the month. Matt: Do you happen to have the stock settings for alignment or a readout of your figures when the car has been setup? I think I'll follow your settings, my rears usually only last 5000 miles! Matt Harwood
Yes, but where, I don't know... I'll try to dig them out.

Don't worry Matt, I sobered up and realised the standard figures are on the same page as the modded ones I posted above..... Stock Toyota Alignment: Front: Camber - 0.5 degrees +/- 0.75 Caster +3.5 +/- 0.75 degrees Toe 0.00 +/- 0.080" (2 mm) Rear: Camber -1.50 +/- 0.75 Toe in (total) 0.120" (3mm) +/- 0.080" (2mm) For furture searches I've also managed to locate a company who can do full laser alignments / camber / castor etc in the West Yorks area - Link Tyres in Mirfield, I'm booked in for Thursday this week (got the 255's fitted on Saturday but haven't driven the car since). I'll report back
