Which Console??

I have been out all day looking for a Nintendo Wii and have failed miserably. Been into every shop in Wigan and surrounding areas and no luck!:(

Whilst I was out though I started thinking.....Do i go for the Xbox or spend a silly amount on the PS3 instead??

I woud appreciate your opinions please! The Wii looks like good fun but the games don't look particularly breathtaking. The PS3 is very expensive and there are very few games about at the mo. The Xbox360 looks mighty fine and the thought of playing PGR3 is very tempting?

Money is no object really but I have two kids 4 & 12 and want to make the best purchase for all the family. My wife also wants a Wii..;)

I was always a PS2 lover but I have to say that the Xbox 360 is brilliant. Great value for money and loads more games than for the PS3. I will be getting a PS3 but when they are a bit cheaper and when more games are out.

Go for the 360, Wii is only good for when loads of mates are round.

Xbox 360 all the way....

*The graphics are the same as PS3 and better in alot of cases....

*There is a well established online system with the xbox, millions connected so u can enjoy and play your games online....PS3 does not have this community online YET...

*There is a HUGE amount choice for games on Xbox at the moment....Hundreds compared to 20 on the PS3.

*Game developers are concetrating FIRST on the XBOX....they are putting all thier resources and effort on the xbox first, the PS3 will get "copied" versions of games...

*Xbox 360 games are more optimised and complete and thought through because game developers are putting more effort into them as thats where the biggest market is at the moment...

Its NOT worth buying a PS3 at the moment....if you buy one its only because of the hype and NO other reasons...Better games and better selection of games on xbox...THE PS3 will be worth buying in about a year, when the PRICES will DROP and there will be alot better selection of games...Also any problems with the PS3 that may occour will be phased out...

i've always been a Playstation lover but have been blown away by the 360

the live concept is brilliant but i guess that's nothing the PS3 can't do now (not sure about the wii) - people i know who've got the wii seem to have lost the initial buzz of it now too

the games on the 360 are already on their next generation too so some are brilliant, and yes PGR is one of the best imho. i believe the next one is due out later in the year but they aren't hyping it too much since the current one is still doing so well!! have a look at Test Drive Unlimited too, that concept of having all the xbox live users on one island is fantastic

PS3 is well overpriced i reckon & i haven't seen a game that's made me want to buy one yet

For instant gratification - Xbox360. As you say PS3 has limited games.

But - bear in mind, it does have motion controllers same as the Wii so if you want that kind of game, I'm sure they will be out for PS3.

Obviously I chose PS3 - but to be honest, I shouldn't really have bought anything. I don't have the patience to play games!

Thanks for that! Looks like the Wii is the way forward in the short term and that will keep the family happy too. I am still happy with my PS2 tbh. I like to have a blast on Black and distribute some pain!:innocent:

I had the wii and now have the ps3. I sold the wii after about 3 weeks as I started to get bored and I still have not seen any games I would like to buy for it. PS3 is great but still no games that I really enjoy. For me, I perfer PC for games, I like FPS and I just think you can’t beat a good PC for that type of game.

LOL :D Sorry was feeling a flippant yesterday :)

This is all imo:

When comparing the next gen consoles you have to look at the market. I have at home / work access to all three consoles and for pure fun the wii is excellent! The only question for me is longevity! Plus i think Nintendo have been very careful not to get involved with the 'other' console war that is going on and coming from a totally different market.

When comparing the 360 to the PS3 this is when you’re getting out of family entertainment and into 'traditional' gaming. The thing to think about with PS3 is that its here for the long term and its packed full of technology that will only come into play in a few years time and really I know its expensive for a console but Sony are losing money on every console they sell and they have openly said that the console will be supported for at least 8-10 years. So from your point of view if you did buy one then you know its not going to be replaced in 2 years time with something else. Unlike the 360 where a loads of my contacts in the gaming industry have said that the 360 IS going to be replaced and within the next few years.

NEXT GEN:

At the moment many of my friends in the gaming industry have said that they have the experience of the 360 so many of the first gen titles that are out for the PS3 at the moment do look better on the 360. But once they can start using the cell processor and RSX in the PS3 effectively then the next round of games will look from a graphics point of view better on the PS3.

GAMEPLAY:

Also when is comes down to playability the 360 has the rumble pack but the PS3 has the 6axis which is really good fun, just playing motorstorm at the moment and its great, plus you can use a psp with your PS3 under remoteplay and extra features come into play such as the screen on the PSP in GT4 demo and F1 becomes the rear view mirror

ONLINE:

Another thing to consider is that the 360 has an established online setup which is excellent! Sony have some real ground to make up with there’s and promoting users to get involved.

GAMES:

At the moment there are loads more titles for the 360 but there are a lot of games coming out for the PS3 and they will be then next gen games.

RELIBILTY:

Not sure about the PS3 as it’s a bit to soon to tell but out of the 8 360 i've used 3 have died plus it really annoys me that 360 has had new models with the lastest stuff in it.

Just a few random thoughts really if you want if we are going todo a beer / Wii session round at Gaz’s then I could bring my PS3 and Xbox 360 for you to have a play with. :)

I've heard that Sony are claiming 8-10 years for the PS3, but I really can't see it. Technology moves on - in 1998, what was the games console of the day? PS1 I guess? Would people really buy a PS1 now? Are they really likely to be happy with PS3 in 2015?

I just bought a PS3 - however, if there isn't a replacement in 8 years time I pretty much guarantee I'll be playing the Xbox equivalent by then.
