Jake
To save you the hassle of switching the turbo, we could just swap cars.... I'd have to think about it, for a nanosecond.
Chris Wilson
Homer: Great posting. That price breakdown should be compulsory reading for everyone thinking of going single. It looks very realistic to me, factor in labour and it's a der do, isn't it...?
Homer
Homer: Great posting. That price breakdown should be compulsory reading for everyone thinking of going single. It looks very realistic to me, factor in labour and it's a der do, isn't it...? Thanks Chris, kind of you to say that. The actual cost for me was far, far higher than that. I didn't factor in the cost of hire cars, the travel costs to pick up parts, the garage costs when things went wrong, the delivery charges on many items, the petrol costs for the mapping (to, during and from the location) etc, etc. Not to mention the inconvenience of having it off the road (its my only car). Those would easily be another £2k. I would never consider this again without having another car. Additionally, the service items carried out before the car is ready for even considering a single conversion would easily reach £3k. Brakes, suspension (Most of it had to be replaced), gearbox, axle etc.... £10k would be an absolute minimum budget for a single conversion, to do it 'properly', you could easily double that. Chris Wilson
I've been saying that for years. the serious Skyline conversions are costing 60 to 80K UK pounds these days. Assuming I had 60K to blow I'd have my backside in an F1, not an out of production Nissan
Homer
I've been saying that for years. True. The problem is the only people that agree with you are the ones that have done it IYSWIM
grahamc
How much would you say that is costing you Graham? (Not getting into the single vs Hyrids thing, but it'd be good info for 'Supeara') Single VS hybrid, well thats an ongoing debate... depends what you want!! Technically have not added it up, as I amk having a lot of additional engine work done by that would not normally be required. Heres the breakdown, as best I can remember: Hybrids - £300 (2nd hand, still in got nick) FMIC - £650 +- HKS cams - £400 including gears HKS Fuel System - £750 (including walbro fuel pump) HKS Clutch and flywheel comes from Sam @ TurboFit LINK ECU - £1500 parts, fitting, mapping exhaust and induction were already on the car. At the end of the day, I wanted to go single, but wanted to do it properly, and could not afford both, so went for the hybrids instead and built the complete base, for if I decide to go single. If I am not happy with hybrids, I have a decent setup to move to single turbo very easily.
Homer
Cheers Graham. As mentioned this isn't a single vs hybrid thread. Assuming £500 for the clutch and fitting that about £4100. £5100 if you bought new hybrids (plus labour)
