R3DG3CKO ROB
Hi guys I'm after a bit of advice. As a few of you know, my plan for the Sup is an engine swap next year to Twin Turbo (pay rise pending). I've been given a reasonable quote from Turbofit for the engine swap and am looking at around £1000 for the donor engine. Question is what do you think I should get done to the engine before the engines are swapped? and how much extra is it gonna cost me? I want to go bpu at least but really don't know what's involved. I also need to think about the Gear box too, how much am I looking at for a manual? Any help would be greatly appreciated Rob
SupraAyf
I have to be honest mucka and say your whole project sounds financially unviable. With what you have in mind, is it not more financially sound to sell your NA and then buy a good 6-Speed TT when one eventually comes up for sale. Even such issues as the availability of 6-speed boxes is fast becoming a problem and as an example but JezzyBabes has a waiting list of 22 guys for 6-speed gearboxes alone! R3DG3CKO ROB
I've not got my heart set on the manual to be honest, just thought I'd prob have to replace my GB anyhow so thought I'd ask about the 6-speed - it would be nice to have a 6-speed AeroTop but if it's gonna cost the earth I'll stick with the auto I am presuming that I'd have to replace my J-spec n/a gear box wouldn't I? SupraAyf
I am presuming that I'd have to replace my J-spec n/a gear box wouldn't I? Not really mate. Martin (Lucifer) is selling his single turbo Supe (originally a TT) and it has a 5-speed NA box in it. EDIT: I am hoping that the likes of Chris Wilson will come along in a second to explain the issues of retaining an NA box within such a set-up though
Sheefa
As mentioned in another thread, at the rate of Auto to Manual conversions going on, Autos will soon become the rareity! Not that I would say no to a conversion though. Take Andy's advice mate, sell up the N/A and get a decent TT Auto or Manual and go from there
R3DG3CKO ROB
That'd be good if I can keep the GB then To find a decent Twin Turbo AeroTop I'd have to spend around 9/10k... If I'm lucky I could get 6.5/7k for mine but I'd still be 3k short, plus I'd have to spend another 5k getting the bodywork done if I wanted it to look the same It sounds like I can get the engine swap done for under 2k and if that's the case there's no real point in selling... or have I missed something? Sheefa
True I suppose mate. Do what feels best to you. I reckon you're looking at £3k all in for a decent TT setup though
hoff
Im thinking of doing something along these lines (not quite yet tho). It seems putting in a TT engine is better and more economical than doing a NA-T conversion, and with more scope to get more power again. Is that right? R3DG3CKO ROB
Yeah, 3k is what I'm thinking in the end, I just want to see what's worth doing while the engine's out...
