JamesC
How do you check how much oil is in the diff? Would i need ramps? Had a quick search but couldn't find anything.
markjodrell
I would have thought that as long as there is no signs of leakage and when the diff oil was last changed it was correctly topped up it should be okay, as far as far as I know diffs dont actually use any oil. AlanM
Don't use it but mine was like treacle last time it was changed (it was the first time as well, probably first time in the life of the car by the consistancy)
Ray
Any guides on how to fill these? And what oil is recommended?

Thats the thing, i noticed a couple of spots of oil or something on the drive today. Wondering if it could be that and i thought it would be best to check if there is enough oil in until i can get it checked out.
dini_the_owl
hi mate, its prety much same as the g/box.you do need ramps. theres a drop plug to drain (round hex type plug).refill from same type plug mounted on side, its quite tricky to refill when diff is in situ though as theres very little room to get the oil in,i always drop it down as its easier to lower the whole diff on a trolley jack, for this you will need to un bolt prop tho, try to make sure when you fill the diff its as much horizontal as poss, refill till the oil trickles out the side wher you are filling from. Tom
Just as dini says, I'm normally found mopping a lot of wasted oil when refilling when I do this at work
SimonB
It's easy enough to check, you don't need ramps, just jack the back up and take out the refill plug (the one on the side). Oil should trickle out - if not you should be able to feel with your finger if the level is ok. I have a small plastic hand pump that I used to refill mine so you just stick the hose in the refill hole and pump new oil in until it trickles out.
