CardiffSupra
Just took the rear caliper off to see why my rears were sticking now i cant get the piston back in to put the pads on. Its jammed solid. Anyone Help? Thanks.
TrickTT
Common problem, you will need a caliper rebuild kit from Toyota, about £25 for both sides. Kit contains new seals, dust covers, slider covers. Pop the old piston out, clean up any gunk/rust around the dust seal with wet/dry paper and put it all back together. Takes about 45 mins per side to do.

CardiffSupra
How does do i get the piston out? Keep pumping the brake?
Ray
Will the brakes need to be bleed after this? Think i might also have a sticky caliper...
TrickTT
I tend to use compressed air to get the piston out, but you can do it using the brake. Get an assistant to very slowly press the brake pedal while you watch the piston. As it gets near to coming out you will see it start to twist slightly in the caliper. Immediatly get your assistant to rellease the brake pedal at this point and you should be able yo just pull the piston out the last couple of mm. If you still have rubber hoses, clamp them now to stop any fluid coming out. You will lose all the brake fluid in the caliper over the floor so have some rag handy. You will need to bleed the brakes after you've rebuilt the calipers.

silvershark44
Just get a desk / G clamp and force it back in. Job done.
Ian W
iirc you're looking at about £25 + VAT for the kit.
Dnk
this can be prevented by changing the outer dust seals before they split, my rears were f**ked and new calipers req
Terminator
Technical thread in the wrong section. If calliper rubbers have spilt, and have been split for some time, only full examination will tell if they are OK. Brakes should always be 100%, if in doubt replace with refurbished or new. It is not worth risking other peoples lives for the sake of a few hundred £s. In this case a full fluid flush sounds required.

TrickTT
Just get a desk / G clamp and force it back in. Job done. You must have misread the original post. The question was how to fix the problem, Not how do I turn my car into a slower, less economical, dangerous MOT failure that is prone to catch fire after 30 miles on the motorway:thumbdown:
