Chris Wilson
I consider this "bodywork" and to be avaoided, but I have been asked to fit a new aerial, the customer has supplied a generic one. I think it would be better to replace just the mast in the stock one, which has been snapped off. Is it easy to change? Do generic ones work OK, electrically? IE, just wire up at the back end, no phaffing about at the radio end? Thanks.
Lucifer
Easy change Chris. Very easy. Whole unit is best.
Pete
Replacing the mast is dead easy. Did it on mine. Can tell you about it if you like on phone. Assuming the inner plastic itself comes out and the motor teeth are fine.
Chris Wilson
I have taken the cover off the aerial and removed the last few inches of white "rats tail" toothed plastic drive. The gear teeth are fine. When I buy a replacement 33 quid mast from Toyota does it come with the white rats tail attached, and a section that pushes into the top of the aerial body? Thanks. Pete
The new unit comes with the metal mast and the plastic rats tail sticking out the bottom. It's curled up quite tight so can be a pain to feed in and turn the ignition on to feed it through without help.
