Matt H
Possibly, but remember no company has ever managed to remain on top in the games industry for more than two generations! If Blueray does win the format war (and its off to a pretty good start) and Microsoft do start using it in the 360 and later consoles, then Sony has already won to a large extent, as they will get royalties from every disk sold. i cant see blue ray taking off though, not when there are cheaper alternative to HD dvds
Charlotte
I actually don't have a problem with the price. My understanding (which may be wrong) was that Xbox costs about the same if you buy all the stuff that is already part of PS3 (DVD, wireless etc.). I would rather pay more and get it all together. I didn't pay that much for Mike's Xbox with the hard drive etc.
Daston
i cant see blue ray taking off though, not when there are cheaper alternative to HD dvds The problem is sony control a vast majority of the film publishers and so are going to be pushing blue ray out. Personaly I will stick with the PC as thats gone past next gen and become a revelution

Charlotte
But seriously, what average family with 'normal' wages are going to be able to afford one of them for their kids? Who are sony aiming their console at?
Daston
oh forgot to add blu-ray will take off in the media market due to the bigger size can you guys remember the mini disks? big craze then died however they are still used by bussineses so if anything blu-ray could end up going that way. tbourner
People are comparing Blu-Ray and HD-DVD to VHS and Betamax, the difference being nowadays everyone will just bring out multi HD disc recorders/players that use both, so there won't be a winner or loser. And there are plenty of people who can spend that much on a PS3, it's not a lot of money really, put it on a credit card if anything! I'd have one if I wasn't saving every spare penny for the wedding - and I'm far from rich!!
mkirby
I do think the price put people off, maybe they should have priced it up like the 360 and you can add the "add ons" but sony just built it in with everything like free online gaming, big HDD, HDMI, BLU RAY, Card Readers etc When you add up the price of the 360 and add all the extras on they come out at about the same price, the proof in the pudding will be in sony can get back all the big game names like they used to have and which microsoft have taken over!? I went out and bought one (as i do) when they were being imported and paid well over the odds because i had to have one and like the 360 it just sat there after the inicial few plays hence why its up for sale LOL Mike
MrHanky
But seriously, what average family with 'normal' wages are going to be able to afford one of them for their kids? Who are sony aiming their console at? Sony are aiming at 20-30 year olds with high amounts of disposable income. Gone are the days of bringing out consoles for kids (thats pretty much Nintendo's area). Mark
Pete
And there are plenty of people who can spend that much on a PS3, it's not a lot of money really, put it on a credit card if anything! That's the problem with current thinking. Stick it on the never never. How long would it take for most people to save up for one? If you saved a modest £75 a month, that's 7 months for £500 and a game or accessory. I suppose it's only the same price as RLTC which has one thousandth of the technology Personally I'm not convinced it isn't price hiked because they know UK buyers will pay it, which is why I refuse to buy one. It's just business sense.
R3DG3CKO ROB
The proof is in the pudding really, just look at the UK sales so far Blu Ray will take off if these sales continue... I've spent several k on my car in the last 4 months and if I hadn't just shelled out for a trial rear I'd snap up a PS3 in a heartbeat... I'm still kinda stunned that Sony didn't c*ck up the launch...
