How well is a police car Tuned??

It used to be that they were modified for more power, but I thought that some of this was because they had to carry a lot of gear too....(ie just maintaining the power to weight ratio..)??

I wonder if they bother any more?

I read somewhere not that long ago that some forces had gotten hold of evo 8's, but only the 260 version. Suppose be quick enough no the tight streets of a city centre.

Humberside Police had a couple of unmarked ones 2 years ago, may still have as far as I'm aware.

I'm not sure they do play with them anymore. Main mod i can think of is uprated batteries to cope with all the lights.

Ford Specialist Vehicles did used to tweak the motorway cars though. I know South Yorkshire's finest used to run Sierra's with the Coworth powerplant back in the day. They also uprated suspension to allow them to get over the speed bumps better and had sump guards on to aid pursuits but i'm not convinced they still bother. Most pursuit cars are BMW or Merc now and i don't know if they offer the same service.

5t.

With the Met it's generally a suspension and brake set up specifically for purpose for their traffic cars, area cars and ARV's. Engines are pretty much stock (especially with the size of our fleet ;) ) Some of the county forces may well tinker with their motors, but cost is always a factor.

One of my Dads mates was a policeman, when i asked him this he told me they mod the susspension on some of them as they have to carry extra weight but thats it.

is that because the people who drive them are all overweight :D

Beefier altenator.

Two batteries as well. With all the extra kit they're operating: radios warning equipment, on board computer stuff, ANPR drains the battery a bit,.;)

Don't even think about it mate. Seen their garages, it's awesome + their training is second to none. Don't believe they don't chip'em

The budget covers everything. They don't do engine changes but done up by Hampshire, and therefore all major forces, a V70 T5 will kill you. After all if you have g.ment backing how much is a chip, induction kit etc.
