Geo
So driving back from work today, and i see loads of Traffic Police. Got me thinking, how well tuned are the cars they drive, are they stock or what?? G.
Mike
I always wondered this too.... Mr Class One?
Alex
It used to be that they were modified for more power, but I thought that some of this was because they had to carry a lot of gear too....(ie just maintaining the power to weight ratio..)?? I wonder if they bother any more?
fishman
There V70 estates do about 150-160 i think....
Thorin
I don't think performance mods are really done any more, but certainly suspension etc. is. Humberside Police many years ago used to have an Escort Cosworth that had been played with quite a bit though
JohnC
I read somewhere not that long ago that some forces had gotten hold of evo 8's, but only the 260 version. Suppose be quick enough no the tight streets of a city centre.

JamesRZ
In my village just outside of Nottingham Mondeo V8 Twin Turbo but built by ford espically for the notts police force no aftermarket stuff even the turbo timer has ford written on it. And i know there is a unmarked Black Civic type R as he has pulled me twice!
martin_a
I'm not sure they do play with them anymore. Main mod i can think of is uprated batteries to cope with all the lights. Ford Specialist Vehicles did used to tweak the motorway cars though. I know South Yorkshire's finest used to run Sierra's with the Coworth powerplant back in the day. They also uprated suspension to allow them to get over the speed bumps better and had sump guards on to aid pursuits but i'm not convinced they still bother. Most pursuit cars are BMW or Merc now and i don't know if they offer the same service. 5t.

RobSheffield
I think the big volvos are tuned, but to what extent we shall never know
Rickeh
They have 1.8 turbo skoda's tuned by custom code. It means they'd be around 230bhp with their stock KO3s turbos. Not that that would worry a TT supra anyway
DrivingTheDream
They definitely have suspension and brakes upgraded as my mates Dad worked at Volvo. He mentioned that they had loads of new bits and bobs for them that were taken off as soon as they got them.
edge
These were intended for the south african police force back in 1986 but for some reason never used and orderd to be scrapped hence only 3 left world wide. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=98942&highlight=

Class One
With the Met it's generally a suspension and brake set up specifically for purpose for their traffic cars, area cars and ARV's. Engines are pretty much stock (especially with the size of our fleet ) Some of the county forces may well tinker with their motors, but cost is always a factor. johnnyknox
I hear that the Skoda Octavia VRSs (rapid response vehicles) are chipped around this way
Class One
Beefier altenator. Two batteries as well. With all the extra kit they're operating: radios warning equipment, on board computer stuff, ANPR drains the battery a bit,. is that because the people who drive them are all overweight Yes
AndyT
Don't even think about it mate. Seen their garages, it's awesome + their training is second to none. Don't believe they don't chip'em The budget covers everything. They don't do engine changes but done up by Hampshire, and therefore all major forces, a V70 T5 will kill you. After all if you have g.ment backing how much is a chip, induction kit etc.
Gaz Walker
a V70 T5 will kill you. In a modded Supra? Took them a while to catch the Top Secret car Gaz.
