terribleturner
Is there a law about having numbers on the side of a car which is driven on the public roads?? Like this one for instance?? terribleturner
I have for a while now but i was always under the impress it was illegal, but then don't those Foxton mimi's have numbers on them??
SupraStar 3000
Why not just have the area for the number including frame etc, but not actualy include the digits. Also, found this: Its a limited edititon Mustang and its painted like that from factory:
ivan
All the numbered cars I've ever seen on the road have had the number crossed out with tape so I guess there must be some reason why not. James, you probably aren't aware of this : http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/7879/captureul7.jpg Funny thing is, after I opened up that image in a separate window it showed fine in James's post. mike_mcevoy
they are only allowed while competing on events, once they have finished or have retired they need to cross them out. SupraStar 3000
why? Is it one of those stupid laws that discourage racing on the roads.
tbourner
Just tell them it's so you can match all your cars to the right numbered keys in your garage!

mike_mcevoy
basically, something to do with UK road laws, been competing on rally's now for the past 13 years on both sides of the car and never quite worked that one out! why? Is it one of those stupid laws that discourage racing on the roads.
terribleturner
Ah yes the crossed out bit rings a bell. But how do Foxtons and their mini's get away with it?? http://www.funkypancake.com/blog/stuff3/2006/05/DSC09702-thumb.jpg http://newsweaver.co.uk/raccoon/fox_two_pics.jpg
mike_mcevoy
Could be the design of them, not classic racing numbers as they have to be black text on a white background for motorsport use. They are also very small, the numbers need to be of a certain size under the Blue book rule (MSA regulations) cant remember off the top of my head what they are. so you might be able to do them if they are like that? dibbleyuk
After having my scooby for nearly 2 years with all the graphics on it etc i acturly spoke to a traffic officer about it and he told me that is wasnt illegal at all. you can have anything you like as long as it isnt offensive and doesnt restrict your view he looked at my car and said it was fine! so hope that helps http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dibbley/scooby/new/IMGP1198smallweb.jpg

fishman
Nice Scoob! //edit: also how many on the Gumball have numbers!! [qimg]http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2003/04/Gumball/images/exotics_2_md.jpg[/qimg] Ahhhhh....... in 2004 in spain many of the gumballers put black tape through the numbers, and some even took them off, becuase they would get arrested by the spainish police, because the police said it showed that they were racing ?!?.... even though its a rally. Rob Durdek & Big Black, taped up the whole side on there x5 with black tape, just to get through a toll without being arrested...
SMiFFAD
Slightly random, but i met the bloke who now owns the scoob pictured earlier, at a jap meet in brighton (if iit wasnt its identical, but hard to tell on a phone!). He used to be a police officer and confirmed it is infact an old wifes tale about the numbers being illegal, much like pregnant women being able to pee in an officers hat There is a reason why rally cars etc cross them out, but i cant recall what it is. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dibbley/scooby/new/IMGP1198smallweb.jpg
