AlanM
Imports are slightly smaller than UK models, you can get all the sizes on the DVLC website mate

Gerry
Have a look at http://www.craigsplates.com for info on imports. The rules / law seems a bit unclear, but I've gone for the legal import plates which are about 2/3 the size of UKs. Still think I'll get pulled over at some time though... Sean1933
i got pulled ages ago for having an import size front number plate...i gave them the lecture about it being legal on an import but they didnt want to know, they just gave me "fixit" note to get stamped and sent off. I didnt bother...and have not heard anything since! (over a year ago)
AlanM
Mine is dead on the import legal minimum. I got hauled and it was measured with the tape they use for skid marks ie cotton 50' foot thing. They decided from this that 4 of my 5 digits were a mm under-size. They tried to get me to take the fixed penalty which I refused and said I would go to court. The Procurator Fiscal did not proceed with the charge. Another anomaly is that if you have an illegal plate you get fined £30 and 3 points. If you have no plate at all it is just the fine.
