I suspected it might have something to do with the ABS because I've only ever bled the brakes on cars without ABS and never had any problems. do you mind me asking how you got around the problem? jagman Posted April 1, 2007 Share Posted April 1, 2007 sometimes you can miss the obvious ,as the calipers have been removed and overhauled,have they been refitted correctly?,they can be fitted upside down ie left to right and vice versa so the bleed nipple is over the caliper in stead of under. this means that the air trapped in the lower part of the caliper cannot be bled as the nipple in above it. could be one of those doh! moments we all have worth checking.. I checked and it turns out I have 2 right calipers (assuming that the bleed nipple should be at the top)??? which means that the one on the left side of the car (off-side) IS fitted upside down (bleed nipple at the bottom). I cant believe I didn't notice this before! Is it actually possible to bleed this caliper? maybe remove it from the car & turn it upside down (the right way around) when bleeding then fit it back to the car? or do I have to replace it with a correct left side one Thanks again guys Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I took the off-side caliper off the bracket, turned it upside down so the bleed nipple was facing up and bled it as normal. Put it back together and the pedal is firm once again!! Thanks jagman for your suggestion! without it I probably would have pumped another ~5L through the system (as I was told to do by a local mechanic).
