Branners
as most of you know I stripped my headlamps down completely, resprayed the insides to satin black, polished the clear plastic bits and put them all back together. I have now posted a full explanation of how to do it along with pictures of the process. Once I have a few pictures of the lights on the car I will post them up as well. Go to www.mkivsupra.net and then look at the resources menu and go to technical reference and the link is listed there. Any questions or queries on it let me know. Doughie
looked pretty smart to me when i saw them at Boxhill.
Branners
What colour would you have liked them to be? Matt black was too matt, gloss would have been a little too much so it had to be satin black. Once you see them on the car they look good. Paul Booth
What I meant was "why paint them". I'm too tired to go and shine a torch on mine right now and look at what they look like, so I was wondering if they're an eye-sore and trying to work out whether I'm likely to care. Branners
not sure if you have seen the 1998 onwards lights, they have black insides and they look much better. I will track down some pictures and post them here so you can see the difference. JB
Syed Shah
My wifes supra is a facelift model, and has the black headlamp internals, and personally, i like my cars headlamps much more, and think they look better!
Guest Ash
JB....... What type of paint did you use? Yours, J
GordonT
You could use Plastikote for it, black or chrome. Gordon T. MKIV TT6
Branners
I used Halfords primer and halfords satin black both in spray can form. I worked on the principle that it wont get that hot in the headlamp and that the paint should survive pretty well. I was also happy to lose some of the reflective capabilities of the shiney bit as I hardly ever drive at night so I dont need perfect headlamps, but then Im not sure it would even affect it that much. I need to see them, it sounds yuchy.
Guest Ash
On the later car, are *all* the headlamps black or are they colour-coded to match the body? Yours, J
Branners
the 98 onwards cars all have the blacked out bits on the headlamps, they also have clearer glass to you can see the insides of the lights much better. There is a guy in the states who stripped his down and sprayed the insides red, looked a bit Ferrari 360ish, and Ibrar did his in the same blue as his body work but he didnt like it so he went all black on it as well. Ibrar Jabbar
Like John said, I sprayed my headlight internals blue and then later changed them Black, take a look at pictures for comparisons. http://www.smartgroups.com/pictures/openpicture.cfm?GID=108882&AlbumID=351849&PictureID=1391178&Layout=L&Sort=ordernum&Dir=ASC And http://www.smartgroups.com/pictures/openpicture.cfm?GID=108882&AlbumID=351849&PictureID=1862554&Layout=L&Sort=ordernum&Dir=ASC Which look better?? Paul Booth
Well IMO, I think the blue looks very classy in that it's colour matched. I'm not sure yet whether the all-silver doesn't still look more expensive than what now appears to be 3 small lights behind a stone shield.
