b.weeks
Did you get anywhere with this? Apparently Paul Whiffin is the guy to speak to (http://www.whifbitz.co.uk) - interested in you did anything as looking to do the same.
Angarak
My mate did his Uni dissertation on this very subject. He tested the flex in a car using various methods of stiffness used in motorsport. For example: :: testing it with seam welds only :: testing it with a basic minimalist (chav-esque max power) roll cage :: testing it with mid-range cage :: testing it with a full proper motorsport cage Needless the say the latter was the best option for reducing chasis flex. A roll cage that is welded to the chassis (not bolted in), is welded to the suspension mounts front/rear (ie - going through side of dash into engine bay front mounts) is best. Can't remember the other stuff he mentioned, we only talked about it briefly but I can ask him for more info if you like. The uni asked his permission to keep hold of his disseratation as an example to future students. He's also a car freak, a rally driver (used to have a nice pug 205gti rally car) and he's currently building rally cars (at the moment he is rebuilding an original audi group b quattro rally car). Mike B
I have one in mine, but it's mostly to keep the family happy; bolted in 6 point. You can see the car flex around it.. interesting from that point of view! It might be more use were it welded to the chassis, but it's just there for "some" impact safety as I don't rate the A pillar in sups when you wear them as a hat.
