About to swap, need advice

I know what are the differences really. Good threads though!

Just wondering if I go the VVT-i route will going BPU be easy? Single turbo, etc. I can't seem to find a wiring diagram on the ECU...

That smaller intake manifold is also worrying me. Just wanting to hear some opinions. I am lending toward the VVTi , but I don't want to regret it ya know? Thanks

I have a 98 vvti and love it have ordered the single and when it eventually gets here its all getting fitted at Envy so have a look at their thread when they start it that should be end of next week'ish so that should throw some light on it.

The one thing with VVTi is the ecu side of things.. The choices aren't as good as the non-vvti, however the vvti engine is just as good if not better than the non..

I for instance run an emanage ultimate on my vvti single, but I'm taking it out and putting a standalone in for the fuel+spark side of things.

I have a non turbo supra, time to ditch the engine. I would definitely go the VVTi route, but I am afraid of having trouble upgrading (BPU, single, etc..). I live in the states so it would be hard as hell to get help. So you guys are my only hope! After the swap I plan to add the Greddy BCC, AEM TRU boost controller, TTC mod, then save up for a standalone. What would be the best for engine management? AEM or Motec? What kind of downpipe would bolt on to the turbos? infact what kind of turbos do these engines have? are they CT-20a's? with them ceramic blades...:(

Jake - Yes, it looks a lot thinner comparing it with an intake manifold off a standard 2JZ.

Nevermind. Found a very decent Aristo front clip for a fair price. Question is now if the ECU is the same as the JDM Supra.

No the ECU is not the same on the Aristo, whether it will work or not I'm not sure.

I've recently fitted a JZS161 Aristo engine in mine, I investigated what would be involved in converting my early model JZA80 TT to run with the VVTi engine and everyone I spoke to said that it would be a very compicated job conversion. In the end I decided to swap the head off my old non-VVTi 2JZGTE engine onto the VVTi block, as it made the install far easier.

It is also not just a case of swapping the engine, there are some heavy wiring loom differences as well which you will need to do. Since the ECU is different, you need to change that as well...then the dash loom is different...

Trust me, there is no straight forward approach with the VVTi engine, a bare engine won't be a simple straight in swap.
