edge Posted March 19, 2007 Share Posted March 19, 2007 She rang me on saturday to say that she had hit the fence when parking up. So i thought great going to spend sunday building a fence. But the fence was ok but now the headlight/indicator/bumper /bonnet/wing are knackered. I also found out today when i stripped it down it had a ding previously in its life and the front panel (bit thats in the middle of the inner wings) that runs along the front of the car had been repaired and the welds have let go. If i was going to pat to have it repaired id think it would need one inner wing and front panel and this is major work. Her excess is £500 but as i was trying to sell the car id rather it had been written off. Any ideas? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Havard Posted March 19, 2007 Share Posted March 19, 2007 It's great how women describe accidents in such a mild manor. To have "hit the fence" would suggest minimal damage! My wife apparently "scratched" the wing of her Mazda 6 a couple of years ago whilst trying to reverse off our drive! It's funny that the scratch was 6" deep and needed an new wing and indicator, as opposed to a touch of filler and a respray!! I can't help with your dilemma but I would suggest getting a quote and not involving the insurance if you can avoid it. You may pay a bit extra now and avoid a big hike if you make a claim!! H. If she's got protected NCB then at least the insurance shouldn't go up. All depends on what the local quote is compared to £500 for letting the insurance deal with it I suppose. It still drives well enough to crash properly does it? IIRC it's a FreeLander right? Should be easy enough to write off. Just make sure there's a crease in the roof, they always write them off then. A tasteful "Ooo look the roof's creased so the chassis must be twisted" style crease can be simulated quite nicely with a hammer handle held by the head. Allegedly.
