Gaz Walker
It's just 6 months inside the time period (Sep 01) otherwise it would be the same as the soop. Arse! Sell it and get an older one Pete Gaz.
jaymdee
We need to forget looking at new cars which may be affordable and fun in a few years time. Need to stick to anything pre March 2001, or suffer a massive tax hit
ivan
ok i'm confused, dont take much! my supra is an L reg therefore under the new budget it would still be taxed by engine size ie £185 a year right? take it that will also apply to my 1975 landy?? Isn't the landie exempt as it's over 25 years old?
the cat
nope 1973 was the last year, the bastards stopped bringing it forward so gotta pay
Paul
What a load of crap this 'green tax' is. I own two cars, my UKTT and a Toyota 4 Runner 3L diesel Turbo:) So I've got 6 litres of planet destroying motors and I'll pay less for them both in tax than my mate and his wife will be paying for a 1.6 Suzuki Vitara Think I'll go and start them both up and let them tick over just to celebrate:D

Paul
LOL - make sure you rub that one well in next time you see them. Don't worry, my mate popped round tonight and I've already pointed it out:d Shows how crazy all this leftie poop is though.

Big Ads
This may have been covered but Havard has an LPG conversion on his supra. Does that classify as "Alternative fuel"?
AndyT
Born free, taxed to death.
lust2luv
Looks like my Chrysler bus will jump from £190 this last year to £300 and then £400 as it's in band G at 302 g/Km with it's 3.3 V6 4sp auto box. It's just 6 months inside the time period (Sep 01) otherwise it would be the same as the soop. Arse! No, your Chrysler will still be band F, band G only applies to vehicles first registered on or after 23/03/06. By the same principle, a 2006 Ford Street Ka (189 CO2s) and a 2001 Lambourghini Diablo (520 CO2s) both pay £190/year. Crazy system. I'd have thought if they really wanted to tax "gas-guzzlers", then the top band would be 300 CO2s and above or something. Of course, many less people own such cars, so they wouldn't make so much money.
Snooze
The reason that the big tax hike only affects post-2006 cars is because of the comparatively few number of people who currently own them. If Brown had put a big tax hike on older cars, he would have been committing political suicide.
Nick
If Brown had put a big tax hike on older cars, he would have been committing political suicide. With the things he's done, he's done that a thousand times over and yet he's still there.

If Brown had put a big tax hike on older cars, he would have been committing political suicide. Indeed, plus as has already been said here, he's sending a message to the car companies which I interpret to be "You don't need to stop making big cars, but you do need to cut their emissions if you want to sell any."
