It wouldn't bother me if they upped it to £1000 a year for road tax, you're not going to get me out of my car. I said this the other say. Charge what you want Mr Brown, as long as I can afford the bill NOTHING will change.!!

I just feel sorry for the people who can't really afford the price hike. The rich will just carry on pleasing themsleves.

If they were serious about the so called CO2 issue they would ban or phase cars with larger engines but no! They just want the money..........:sly:

I've wanted a Supra since 1995 and I agree with H, go on raise it, see if I care, I will have a Supra and enjoy it!

It's just plain bull! It's all about punishment for having something, there's no incentives for doing anything else.

It's just typical of this govnment its the same with this new air port tax it just seems they have all thought "oh here is a way we can make more money lets blame the envoment and c02" if they were realy seriouse about sorting it out they would either gas all the cows or shove corks up their ass's as they are the ones causing all the problems

Germany pays HUGE road tax based on engine size...... looks like we're set to become more European :(

A possibility is to change the V5 form to show the car as a 1.0 litre ????? ;) Although I think you need a VOSA inspection these days? :search:

Can't we set up a petition (if it does happen obviously) or something, claiming that a large majority of people with big engined cars have them as second cars only, they use a 1.1 punto during the week and travel only 2000 miles a year in the 'gas guzzlers', so probably on average polute less than a family with a 1.6 Civic!!

Hopefully it wont apply to cars registered before april last year, or so i hear *fingers corssed*

They hiked road tax a few years ago, my folks pay 200 and something for their 53 defender, while my old sx remained at the 170 mark!

They need to scrap road tax, its a joke! Tax the fuel (as they allready do, then those who use it pay for it, bigger cars use more fuel... simple really. only draw back is company car drivers, they need taxing the arse off of to stop them living 100 miles from work and commuting every day

Ahh I see the flaw in your plan - fairness isn't allowed - if it was, we'd ONLY pay tax on the fuel we use....

I used to live 62 miles away from work, and I used to drive every day in the Supra too. It's a bit nieve to suggest taxing people more (company car driver or not) simply to get them to move closer to work is a good idea. If I could have moved anywhere near work when I first got my job then I would have done. Unfortunately I couldn't afford to buy a house near work, and if I had gone the renting route then I probably still wouldn't have a house now. It is no fun working 7am-7pm every day simply because you don't want to sit in the queues of traffic that you'd hit if you left at the normal rush hour(s) times. Unfortunately for a lot of people there is no alternative to commuting to work. If some of those people are luckly enough to get a company car to soften the financial burden of commuting then good for them.

/rant over :innocent:

Bring on the "tax by mile" schemes I say.

That way we can all run three or four cars much more economically. :D

Or maybe that's their plan, inflate road tax so much that the majority will be happy to accept the tracker proposals as it will mean "a discount". ;)

IMO 3,000cc isn't particularly large for a car. Many 'average' cars come with 3ltr engines - Pug 406/407, Vauxhall Omega, Alfa GTV, other Alfas etc.

They're hardly hollywood cars are they.

I think if by 'large engined' they mean above 3.5 or 4ltr then fair enough. Whether it's fair to double the tax on them though is another thing.
