Guest mk47
Has anyone else on NTL noticed that their internet has got alot slower since its change to virgin media? Mines gone soo bloody slow im considering changing ISPs this week - trying to watch videos on youtube and it takes like 1 min to do 1-2% buffer etc. Any good reccomendations for internet? currently paying i think £17 with virgin. ivan
Just checked the Service Status page and saw this: Virgin Media is committed to maintain and upgrade our Broadband network, There is a requirement to carry out maintenance and upgrades to parts of the network that may cause customers to experience a brief loss of connection, while the work is carried out. The following work will take place between 12am Monday the 12th March and 12am Monday the 17th March On the morning of Monday the 12th March between midnight and 2 AM, Virgin Media customer may experience degraded performance when trying to register for the service On the morning of Tuesday the 13th March between midnight and 6 AM, Network improvements will result in a loss of service in Barnet, Bedford, Bishops Stortford, Luton, Lichfield, Papworth and surrounding areas. Reboots taking place will result in a brief loss of the Broadband Medic, Email and the virgin media homepage and Virgin Media customer may experience degraded performance when trying to register for the service On the morning of Wednesday the 14th March between midnight and 6 AM, Network improvements will result in a loss of service in Luton and the surrounding areas. On the morning of Saturday the 17th of March between midnight and 6 AM, Virgin Media customer may experience degraded performance when trying to register for the service Virgin Media would like to apologise for any inconvenience that these planned works may cause. Looks like their work is affecting other areas though. Let's see what it's like in a week or so.

Jezz
I sacked off NTL for sky 2 months ago. Was paying £21 for 4mb NTL, now paying £9 for 16mb sky, with a constant 15.4mb. Bargain.
Angarak
I wonder if the contention ratio has changed since the merger, as that would have some affect on the speed of your broadband. I am/was with BlueYonder, who had a contention ratio of 20:1, if they have increased that (most ISP's use 50:1) then the speed will go slower. Bobbeh
10Mb NTL here, no issues at all. Has worked perfectly for 10 years now You didnt have a cable modem 10 years ago I've had no issues either.. I think someones hoping that service has suffered so can blame the name change Pete, does 16mbits really excite you? Cable can output so much more if needed, they're only capping it due to compeition not technology. They've had 50mbits + to households in Scandanavia for 10 + years now.
