Hybrid Turbo's

I just had the unfortunate event of one of my turbos dying :-(.

I am looking at getting replacement hybrid turbos. But in-order to get the best out of these what other engine mods would i need( or would benefit from). At min i just have a induction kit and Blitz NUR SPEC R exhaust still with one cat in until MOT later this Month ;-)

And before you ask i did do a search but couldnt find anything concrete just what people already have so if there is a string to a past posting that would be great to :-)

cheers

Yeah it is a Jspec, and i thought i would need injectors but wasnt sure, and FMIC surely thats a luxury?? isnt it

injectors arent "that" important, but at least an FSE - I have an FSE and 550cc Injectors just to make sure, and a Fuel pump is deffo reccomended.

No reason to change the SMIC for a FMIC - IF your SMIC is in good shape, saying that I did change mine cos mine was erm... battered slightly

Oh, btw I have stage 3 hybrids/fmic/fse/550 injectors/e-manage (to be fitted)

Hope this is of some help to ya.

Go for a full de-cat (big improvement on it's own :) ) bigger injectors with a Walbro / U.K pump a fuel cut cutter and a good old fashioned bleed valve. You'll almost certainly also need a restrictor ring to stop overboosting but assuming (as earlier mentioned) that your stock intercooler is in ok condition (U.K cars intercoolers tend to be in much worse nick than Jap ones due to the salting of our roads  ) then it should be just fine. Oh and whilst your at it you may want to check out the many threads on induction kits on here, the general view tends to be that they don't filter as well as the stock pannel filter and that they pull in more warm air (a BIG no no) too. Out of interest who would you be thinking of using to do your hybrids ?, there've been a few failures (q well documented on here somewhere) of them lately so I'd pick carefully if I were you. I used Turbo Technics (after one of the so called tuners on here never returned any of my calls :( ) and they were good to deal with and I'm more than happy with mine. If you do a search of McCannys posts you'll find out what he thought of them too having driven the car, good luck mate.

With uprated injectors and/or fuel pressure regulator you will also need a fuel computer of some sort. Options are a stand-alone ECU, SAFC or Greddy Emanage. The Emanage is the one to go for IMHO. Plenty of info on here about it.

You may not need a restrictor ring with hybrids as some have enlarged wastegates.

Also worth saying that all of these suggested upgrades assume you are going to run higher than standard boost. There's nothing to stop you running standard boost to start with until you sort other stuff out.

Personally I would be worried about det with hybrids and a standard intercooler. I would want a FMIC and/or water injection.

he did say he already had an induction kit...?

be careful of the turbo "staging" as theres no official description of what this means across the board AFAIK, and last time I asked on here that was agreed with.

Of course you could be talking about going BIG twin :D

As I say, some people run hybrids on stock everything else so it's up to you really. I always play safe. I figure if you're messing about with something that Toyota invested loads of time and money into getting right if you're gonna take it apart and change bits, you should keep it all in line as much as poss with equivalent bits to support the changes. If that makes sense :conf:

I honestly didn't understand it. I think I got the gist of it though.

Apparently there are 600bhp Supras in the states still using the stock side mounted IC without any problems.

Ooooo, controversial.

Some might disagree with both those points mate.

Excellent thanks for the help, to be honest i thought i might need bigger injectors and a pump.

The Hybrids will be from Turbo Technics me thinks, they seem cool guys up there and read some good reviews of them.

Most likely have a look at my side mount IC tonight lol see what shape its in.

But might do it in stages like suggested and run on normal boost until everythings in place.

And I am deff gonna have a full decat just soon as i get my MOT out the way lol

cheers

Your SMIC is ok depending on how high boost you want to run and how old it is and its condition...

You can run Hybrids with no mods at all but when you start upping the boost you need other supporting parts as mentioned previously by the other guys...
