stuohy
Yesterday I left work with no petrol. I drove to the nearest garage to remedy the situation, but couldn't get my fuel cap off... it would turn clockwise (tightening way) with the usual clicks to indicate that it wasn't tightening any more, but I couldn't move it anticlockwise. In the end I had to leave the forecourt felling like a bit of a twat, drove round the corner and hit it repeatedly with a tyre iron . The black plastic bit came off and I used the tyre iron to turn the yellow bit! Has anyone had this happen to them?

markrzs
Was it a warm day where you were by any chance ? When your low on fuel you get a build up of fumes and together with the heat from outside it makes the fuel cap hard to undo. Hope this helps
AlanM
Hard yea, but not that hard that you have to break it off surely?
supragold
My fuel cap has marks on it where someone in the past has had to use pliers to undo it. I've never had to do that myself but on occasion it has been tight.
Konrad
It is usually happening when you fill your car to full and drive till orange low fuel lamp goes on. And I would say it is underpressure, because once you open cap (after using all bad words dictionary) you hear whistle of air getting inside
MrRalphMan
I also get the whooshing when I drive to nearly empty, I thought that there was a vent in the tank to stop this though. Never had it that bad that I couldn't get it open though.
Wazz72
I thought the wooshing sound was the car trying to suck more money from your wallet like a big Hoover..
Sheefa
It's happened to me a few times. I've had to use pliers too mate. At least yours hasn't pissed petrol all over you new jeans!
Wazz72
You used pliers tokeep your wallet shut, so that your car couldn't drink your money? I would have used a bench vice or a G clamp
