AEM - AFR readings

TT-DEK

Recommended Posts

Recently fitted above. Things seem ok, but when the loud pedal is pushed and number 2 tubby kicks in the reading goes a little silly. It hits 10, quite quickly but i can sense it would go lower if display would let it?

Can anyone advise if this is ok, or not, appreciate your help, thanks.:)

I asked similar questions when I fitted mine last year.

In the 10s means its running rich - which is safe but leaning it out alittle will give you more power. I don't think this can be done without having some sort of fuel control though.

I think there is a few threads on AFR's. Have you tried a search?

I would, until you can confirm what the actual AFRs are. That's the problem with the AEM UEGO; you can't tell if the AFR is 10:1 or 8:1

If it's 10:1 you'll be alright but if it's actually a lot richer . . . .

Most AEMs bottom out at 11.2:1 but I've seen some only get to 11.4:1 and others hit 10.8ish. It's annoying when you are aiming at 11.4:1 or thereabouts but haven't got a clue how far past that you are!

The stock map runs mad rich when on boost. You can pull fuel from it quite safely. Aim for 11.4 to 11.8:1 and you'll feel it's noticeably sharper. You can run all the way to mid 12's but that's when you are pushing it. mid 11's is safer with minimal to no loss of power. 10's are daft unless your intercooler is shot or you are on boost for a long period.

If you reach 9:1s you get a marked dropoff in power and it goes flat. 8:1 and you get misfires due to the mixture not even igniting. It's around these areas you are chancing borewash over the short term. Mid 10's are how Toyota run the blighter so I wouldn't fret over that :)

Cheers Ian. Funny you should say that as when i put it in manual, and first or L, then hit the pedal i seem to get overfuelling? misfire as you said, so its got to be mad rich i,d say?

Can this be tweaked with the SAFC-2 easily enough? or does it need mapping again totally?

Mmm actually I'd say that may be something different - overfuelling issues tend to show up when the engine is under more load that 1st gear... Have you got RLTC? :)

You need someone to look at your car who knows how piggybacks work and how more specifically an AFC works. You can't "tweak" out an overfuel, it's a sweeping problem across a reasonably large part of the map.

I see mid to low 10:1 range when on tubby 2 at BPU ish level. Still on 440's. This is normal from what I've seen of many cars of similar spec and as Ian says, there is some power to be had safely from trimming some of the fuel out. Exactly why I've gone for a MAP2 piggyback.... will see how I get on with it shortly.

Cheers,

Brian.

I feel a bit of a fool? Since my last mapping i have since disconnected my W/I because i didn,t want the mix to ice over in the pump when it was really cold an icey? THIS will change things a little? wouldn,t it?  Please advise?
