Hi all,

thought i'd ask and see what you lot think of this;

Processor (CPU) - INTEL® PENTIUM® D 945 (2 X 3.4GHz) 800MHz FSB/2 x 2MB L2 Cache

Memory (RAM) - 2048 MB CORSAIR XMS2 800MHz - LIFETIME WARRANTY! (2x1GB)

Motherboard - ASUS® STRIKER EXTREME: The ultimate gaming motherboard

1st CD/DVD Drive - 18x DVD±RW/RAM/Dual Layer + Lightscribe (48 x CD-RW) (£17)

Memory Card Reader - INTERNAL 57 IN 1 CARD READER (READS XD, MS, CF, SD, etc)

Power Supply & cooling - 600W Quiet Quad Rail PSU incl Case Fan & CPU Cooler (£69)

Firewire & Video Editing - 2 x IEEE 1394a FIREWIRE ONBOARD (1 in back + 1 on board)

£693

thing is- it said there was 'instability' on this chipset with any more ram at 800mhz, said to increase ram at slower 667mhz or stay a 2 gb - does anyone know what i should do??

is 2gb @ 800 better than say 4gb @ 667

also am looking for a good graphics card any ideas?? the one i want is £330 notes a little out of my league

cheers

Rob

Whats your budget for the Gfx card? Is a 8800 GTS in your price range? Also I think Nvidia are releasing their mid range 8 series gfx cards soon that should be a little cheaper.

4gb will be better however I cant see how faster ram will hurt the pc as mine is running 850 ram on a board that is only ment for 800

whats your 3Dmark06 score?

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 1.86GHz 'Conroe' 2Mb Cache LGA775 (1066 Mhz) - Retail

2Gb (2X1Gb) Corsair TwinX DDR2 XMS2 Dominator, PC8500, 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered,CAS 5-5-5-15, EPP

Asus Commando i965, S775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 533/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX

Pioneer DVR-112DBK Black 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer DVD Writer (Reduced Length) OEM

600w Seasonic M12-600 SLi Modular PSU 2xPCI-E 4xSATA 120mm Fan ATX1.3/2.01

£628.40+delivery

add £250-280 for a 8800GTS GFX, another £10-15 for card reader, £30-40 for a CPU HSF, and you'll have a comp that'll clock from stock speed of 1.86Ghz to 3.60Ghz.

this setup will kill the one you just listed.

also, never use PSU that comes with a case, unless you want to RMA your stuff a lot of want to burn your house down.

if you still need more time to think, first, i suggest you to look in xtremesystem.org

and then wait till end of April for price cut on all Intel CPU, and possibly a second choice of GFX card from ATi.

hope that helps

PS. what size monitor are you going to play games on? if you have a 24inch one, you'll have to fork out that 300quid for a GFX otherwise you wont get what you want in terms of quality.
