wooooo'ing/resonance noise as 1st turbo spools?

Mine used to do this a lot on #1 when cold and warm. Then I went TTC and it stopped, only to be replaced with another sound!

When I'm at WOT and the engine is under heavy load and I lift off quickly the car makes a noise that kind of sounds like a very high pitched voice saying "F**K Youuuuuuuuu"... I'm betting on a faulty stock BOV but it gives my car character so i'll forget it for now :D

Mines been doing this since having a boost controller fitted, when first installed the garage didnt bypass the actuator vsv so the 1st turbo was boosting at 1.2bar and i had a wailing noise that sounded like a police siren. Now capped off the vsv and the noise is still there a bit when cold. First thought my 1st turbo was fcked but as its a jspec apparently they don't sound like this on their way out?

All pipework seems ok with no obvious leaks.

I also have an HKS bov which seems to be spitting more oil vapour than usual.

I have had my stock TT Jspec for 2 months and this is am problem I have, previous owner said its happened for a few years. It is certainly coming from the drivers side under the bonnet.

If I hold the revs at say 2.8k and can hear the turbo whine, then the howl will making the sound but only when its cold.

Does not do it under load. Im glad I am not the only one with the problem though, I will try and obtain a new OEM BOV.

Exactly the same as mine mate! In the summer I changed my diff oil thought it might of been that! But now that I've put the new bov on it's completely gone :) I would defo get a new bov or a aftermarket one. It came in 2.5k same time as yours sounds like when you blow into a empty beer bottle. I'm over the moon now it has gone like.

Yup, thats certainly the sound, I thought the turbo was a gonna or needed re-balancing etc. New BOV it is!

Just to chuck in 2p on this one I've had exactly the same sound a few years back - it was the reed valve under the IACV VSV, which wasn't sealing correctly. This meant that as the Turbos spooled there was a slight gap which created the "whoo" noise.

Stripped it down cleaned it and replaced the two gaskets = problem cured.
