First drive Porsche 997 Turbo

What a motor...........blue 997 turbo my mate got last week, 145 miles on it, and the nicest 9 i have ever seen. Few options brought it to £102K is he wise letting me out in it?.

Drove for about 40 mins. great seats, lovely dash layout, bose system sounds great. Gear change is a little heavy as he has the quickshift option. Turbo response isnt as quick as i'd thought but how do you knock a car that can muster up big torque @ 2.5K in 6th. Delay time at low revs seemed like 2 to 3 seconds.

Suspension is very very complaint with our shitty local roads, tyre noise kept to a minimum as it uses the awesome RE050a. Brakes are real lie down and die stuff, alough not much better than Uk spec with ccx, believe it or not, perhaps on the track it would be a different story.

Steering feels positive and less vague on uneven surfaces than his previous GT3, traction is massive yet it wasn't that hard to get the trac to come on when i gunned it out of a junction.

Typically the sudden weight transfer on a corner @ 120 or so made the car feel the usual twitch then hold, un nerving but it mid engine and this is to be expected. As most of you know I am not a mid engine fan, but this 4wd and excellent suspension is very easy to live with.

Engine is the most refined he has had yet, always smooth and mannerly. Its a car you could go for a very long drive in without your fillings coming loose or your ears ringing from tyre noise.

Top marques to porsche for getting a mid engine car to drive like this on challenging roads. Still...........if i had to go somewhere very quickly around here I could get there just a fast and with more confidence in the well sorted Supra.

Still enjoyed every minute of it :D

Lucky man!

Fantastically well engineered cars, I bet they're lovely to drive.

I'm getting a 430 if I win the lottery, the Porshe's don't look flash enough for me. :D

It would depend how much I won. If I won enough that I didn't need to worry about maintenance costs, I'd have a Ferrari. But if I only won £150K, it would be the Porsche every time.
