Turbo Upgrade to NA Supra

Well the body kit is loud and the interior is like a migraine but that's personal taste on my behalf :)

On a techie note I'm dubious of an NA -> turbo conversion that uses an Apexi AFc to control the fuelling. It's woefully limited in load sites and it's not pressure sensitive so it never knows what boost you are running. It looks very shiny under there but an XS power turbo and an inadequate engine management solution would keep me well away from it. Personally.

I have to ask what is wrong with xs power turbos a number have been done on the forum and not 1 has blown up or gone wrong to my knowledge. That can't be said of many other turbo systems that have been around the forum. I have run a T60 for well over 12 months with no problems. The only reason I am changing is for more power and got my T78 at some what of a bargain.

Sometimes I think opinions are based on label snobbery rather than fact on how they perform. (I'm not saying that is the case in your case tho' Mr C)

Whats the cost of having a new fuel management system bought and installed if in the future more boost is wanted from the turbo?

Why would putting a sing turbo on a tt produce more power then an n/a t conversion...Are the engines not the same?

Get more from a TT for a start even the J-specs are 440cc injectors which are bigger than NA

I don't think the ad on pistonheads mentions the transmission. If it's got the stock NA tranny and you wanted to up the power further, you may need to change to a 6-speed box from a TT. This is another reason why some people favour TT -> bigT rather than NA -> bigT.

I nearly bought this. Was going to look at it last weekend but my mates advised me to steer clear (solely due to the fact that it was a conversion and nowt else). I can`t dis the car as I never saw it and wouldn`t tell anyone not to buy it but I asked if the compression had been lowered....he didn`t know. Was the clutch uprated?.....he just put a new one on but couldn`t say which brand etc. New clutch isn`t mentioned in his advert (as a selling point). He`s had the car 2 months and is getting rid. I also spoke to Turbofit and they said there was never any probs (as far as they knew) with the car but without being slanderous, they would. No garage is gonna say yeah, we installed a set-up that`s all wrong.

I was concered the gearbox may need to be upgraded as well.

It was a 600 mile round trip for me to go see it and the main reason I backed out was I didnt fancy puting a new clutch in every few thousand miles. Maybe all would have been well but couldn`t afford to take the chance. It`s a belter though and would have loved to have bought it.

AND.......for a tenner, why not advertise it in the best place where folk will be looking for a Supra.....HERE!!!!!!!!

Best of luck and really do hope it turns out to be a great trouble-free car for you.

There was a guy who posted up as a newbie this week, who claims he paid £1750.00...:(

I would imagine that is the exception rather than the rule.!!

H.

Didn't Dangerous Brian buy one off *someone* for 2K????

And I wasn't far off the mark with £6K!! ;)

I've seen a few with my own eyes and I wouldn't have one in my car. That bit was opinion on my behalf. I'm dubious at best of stuff off Ebay, so maybe I am a bit snobby haha :D I'm a believer in bangs-per-buck so a HKS T04Z you can stick up your exhaust pipe as it's like £2000, a BL series is brilliant as it's

Yes, some people fall for brand names. At last count I've got 22 different brands on my car so I'm not counting myself in that group haha :D

If you've got an XS power tubbie and it works, and you are happy with it, then I can't argue with that.

PS if your T60 let go now would you post up or would you keep quiet for fear of a slew of "I told you so"'s? :D

Bit of a ball-of-string question but budget £800 for an E-Manage solution to £3000 for a full standalone.

No, they aren't. Small difference - the TT has oil squirters to help cool the undersides of the pistons. Big difference - the NA has a much higher compression ratio. Go past about 0.8bar of boost and you'll get a lot of detonation problems. That limits your power output to 400ish BHP. Which is a real good result if you've got an NA and had it a while and love it and want it faster, don't get me wrong. But I wouldn't start fresh with an NA as it's not an engine built for turbocharging out the factory.
