RobCowley
Basically the girlfriend has put waaaay too much oil in her 51 reg Punto 1.2.... oil light flashed a few times...dipstick was just showing on the min mark! Told her to stick a litre in.....she put 4 litres in Typical! ( its around an inch above the max mark on the dipstick!) Now her dad is saying "its fine and will just burn off" Surely having this much oil in an engine can cause problems? Ive suggested just draining a few litres out...but hes saying itll be fine... QUESTION So. should i drain a few litres out tomorrow, or will it be fine? Thanks for any help

Ian W
definitely get rid of some mate! a tiny amount over would have been ok imo but four litres rather than a litre is just asking for trouble.

RobCowley
Cheers chaps That should be enough to convince her dad! Thanks for the quick replies! On a side note....if i undo the sump plug to drain some oil...am i going to need a new washer?
Havard
It's a shame to drain it as that £15 worth of oil will have increased the Punto's value significantly!! Got to drain it mate!! H.
Tom
Lol, women eh? we had a guy come in the other day saying how his wife wanted to do more of her own things on the car, so he let her top her oil up, she went out started to fill up then a few mins came back in and asked him how he got the oil into such a small hole?, he was thinking wtf? what are you talking about?, he went outside with her and she proceeded to demonstrate the problem, she was trying to pour the oil in through the dip stick hole! another I heard was this girl who wanted to buy some "710" for her car,the guys were like oh, I think you mean oil, your oil cap is the wrong way round! lol. RobCowley
Hahaha! Sounds about right:d To add some more comical value to the thread....I've just spoken to her, telling her not to drive it tonight. She told me she was waiting for the engine to fill, and the oil to come to the top...."like the screenwash does"... it's a good job there were only 4 litres in the garage, else it'd have been a bit more than £15 worth of oil Gonna drain some tomorrow...Thanks guys
ibby
doesnt overfilling the engine oil, make too much pressure and casue the piston seals and dtuff to wear off quicker.
SUPRALOOPY
the engine can hydrolic(sp) so drain some out ASAP
