Crap Day - RIP Smudge

Got woken up this morning by a knock on the door, it was a chap from the little cul-de-sac across the road, he'd found one of my cats lying under his van, sadly he was dead :(

Smudge was about 3, healthy and the most loving cat you could ever imagine, last night he jumped on the bed like normal and had a cuddle, at 5:30am he woke us up like normal and went out for a play, we always let him in for a sleep and some food when we get up, it was his thing, we tolerated it, he was part of the family.

No idea what happened to the little fella, no sign of injury and he seemed perfectly OK, regular check-ups at the vets and all 100%, we can only presume he got hit by a car and they damaged him internally :( He was a big cat, the driver would have known about it, we live on a quiet housing estate, no through road, probably a neighbour :(

We are absolutely devastated, his sister, Poppy, is just confused :(

I know many of you don't think much of cats but please take care out there and if the worst does happen do the decent thing and stop, he might have been here now if the driver had a spine

RIP little man.

really sorry to hear you sad news, Michael. losing a pet is always hard, and more so when they are so much a part of the family. Also, sad for his sister, as she won't have an idea of whats happened.

really can't stand people who won't stop after they hit something, just to check if its an injured animal.

once again, sorry for your sad loss

Sorry to hear that. It's never nice to lose such a member of the family

I nearly ran a cat over a couple of weeks back. If I hadn't been in the Supe, I'm sure I would have hit it. That same journey I went on to hit a fox at about 70-80; not a pleasant experience :(. I turned round to check on the fox and it was lifeless in the road. I just hope it didn't suffer too much.

Sorry to hear of the bad news fella , Our cat got hit by a car just before xmas and the driver didn't stop , luckily she managed to drag herself home somehow and pull herself through the cat flap .

We ended up rushing her to the emergency vets who managed to save her , she's got a permenant limp and cost a fortune but she's still here and as you say part of the family , And worth every penny .

Again sorry about the bad news buddie

Still having sporadic crying moments but your kind words are helping, thanks chaps.

He was a fairly unique little fella Jake, the facial markings were one of the reasons we picked him.

Any chance of getting a vet to check him over to see if there was anything that can be determined about cause of death?

We asked about a post-mortem at vets (he's up there now) and they can do it but they don't think it will reveal much, the vet examined him this afternoon and called back a few minutes ago, poor lass was in tears too, she always used to make a huge fuss of him when he went in for his check-ups :(

Anyway there are no obvious signs of what has happened but his claws are scuffed and split, apparently this is a common thing when an animal is run over. I don't want the little chap being messed about with so I'm going to leave it at that, the crematorium are picking him up from the vets on Monday :bye:
