Guest cashie2000
hi im new to this site. ive got a 1994 uk auto supra tt. i want to put a manual gear box in it. ive been told i can get all the parts for about £500.i have a rough idea what i need but can anyone tell me exactly what i need to do it? also i spoke to my mechanic who said it shouldnt be to much of a problem to fit as long as all the mounts are there? does anyone know if i need to do any major modifications to get it all to fit? DannyW
If you can find a place that sells all the parts needed for the conversion for £500 then i'll buy 10.
Guest cashie2000
my mate bought all the parts to do it from combelack breakers for £300 but that was a 5speed box and with out the ecu which i thought was quite a bargin.
DannyW
The TT didn't come with a 5 speed box so he hasn't got the correct parts by the sound of it.
Homer
my mate bought all the parts to do it from combelack breakers for £300 but that was a 5speed box and with out the ecu which i thought was quite a bargin. 5spd will work, but its not as strong as the 6spd. Also, how about all the other stuff - the list is pretty huge. 'Jezzybabes' does a 6spd conversion kit for around £2300, though I don;t think he has any in stock (waiting for some more write offs!) Guest cashie2000
i know that the manuals tts come as 6 speed but he could only get hold of a na box.he told me that it would be best to get a 6 speed but a 5 speed would still go in. i aint no mechanic so aint to sure but he definately had it runnin with a 5speed. Guest mk47
The 5 speed is probably from the na or a mk3. you still need a manual diff, gearbox, clutch, flywheel, master/slave cylinders. doubt you would get everything for £500 mate.
Guest cashie2000
he did say it wasnt going to be as strong but as i only have a pretty much standard engine i would have thought it would be fine.

Jake
seems to me he got a bargin after reading this. It would be a bargain if they were the right (6 speed) parts. Seems like they aren't though. i just wanted a list of what i needed really so i could ring around and see what sort of prices i was getting. So now you've got the list how does it compare to what your guy has bought?
Homer
Any problems running the Jspec LSD auto diff??? And I'm after a kit for £500 if anyone wants to sell me it You can't the prop lenghts are different. With a 5spd, the 5spd components are going to be needed (diff, driveshaft, prop, etc), it's not designed for TT power. It will work, sure, but it's not going to be as strong. I'd be amazed if he can do it for that price. The NA parts maybe, but even the cheapest garages here will charge £600+ for fitting alone.
Guest cashie2000
well i aint still to clear on what i do need as you seem to be talking about 6speed parts and im not sure if its differnt parts for a 5 speed.he didnt give me a full list of what he got. sure he mentioned changing the prop tho?he obviosly got the right parts because he had it dunning. whether it was strong and efficient enough i dont know. RobSheffield
Ok, 5 speed is considerably weaker than 6 speed, you can see the link Jake posted with the parts required, and we have told you approx prices Where are you struggling?

Guest cashie2000
im not struggling. i know its going to be weaker but how much weaker is what i need to find out. as i hardly every cane my car i would have thought it would be strong enough.but this is what im trying to find out. obviosly if i can get a 5speed for half the price and it will handle what i need it to that is what i will do. i only have a list of parts for 6 speed

Kranz
You can't the prop lenghts are different. TBH I'd be more inclined to lengthen the front propshaft from the auto to fit the manual box. It needs to be about 50mm longer. This way the auto rear prop, diff and left driveshaft can be used instead of sourcing 6 speed ones.
captainchaos
picking my six speed conversion up in the morn only been looking about 4 month not as pricey as some people say but still alot more than 500 quid
JohnK
The sub tunnel alone - which you should buy new will cost you over 10% of that £500 budget.
ajazyasin
There is nothing wrong with running a standard supra(or even lightly modified) on the W58 5 speed. The 6th gear is more a top end thing anyway. When people talk about the 'strength' of a box, they are usually talking about how much abuse it will take. You can kill any box if you drive like a tit! Slamming gears and abusive downshifts will destroy a V160 as well as an R154 or W58. Its just a matter of time.
