Homer
I picked up some second hand jspec drilled and slotted discs with 'green stuff' pads, these were very cheap and bought only because the standard ones i have are totally worn out... What I'm unsure of if is these are any better then the standard discs in terms of day to day braking performance. It seems to me that as the braking area is being much reduced (due to the decrease in the braking surface area), there is going to be a decrease in braking power. Before I fit these I'm a bit concerned as to the effect on high speed braking - often find myself hitting the brakes fairly hard between 150 and 80 (or so) and get huge brake fade (and juddering/red hot/smoking brakes - last 2 observed by a friend!). This is something I obviously want to eliminate, will drilled/slotted discs be an improvement or make things worse? Pic of the disc is attached, if that helps! Gordon F
Probably unlikely to make much difference either way. I have heard that uprating the pads on j-spec brakes can give an improvement, but for decent brakes you need to upgrade to UK spec all round as a minimum. It's not cheap, but you will be driving a totally different car. I never had the ABS kick in until I fitted the UK's.
Dragonball
Dont even THINK about greenstuffs! They are crap - and I mean really crap - not just crap but the crappiest thing to be made by a man called crap out of a town called crap in crapshire You may have got the 'crap' angle by now - or will a few more chosen uses of the word crap define my experiences with these further...? The discs - loads written up about these m8 - wack them on with some decent pads (try Chris Wilsons)
michael
All you've done is downgraded the pads and reduced the thermal capacity of the disks - in effect you've just made your brakes worse
Alex
The groove's and holes will help dissapate the gas and dust build up from a hard stop. This should stop some of the juddering (which is caused by gas build up (or the disc is warped)) The Pads will work everyday, and I've done 15mins of track work with them, but the pedal went very long after that! j-spec brakes and track days are a no-no full stop. They really did kill the fun of having a Supra, for me.
