Gough Posted July 17, 2004 Share Posted July 17, 2004 All I can say is... what a revelation! It really does feel like a different car. What am I talking about?! Well my supra came with 19" volk split rims which came with spacers on the rear (they were the wrong offset in the first place)... which in turn tended to lead to the tyres fouling the arches under "brisk" cornering. Having just bought and fitted a set of 17" OE wheels, the difference is amazing. The car absorbs surface imperfections, humps, bumps etc far better than before, and lateral traction is breached nice and progressivly. I don't want to start a large alloy wheel debate/war thing (my 19"ers were the wrong size anyway), just was a bit taken back by the improvement. MONKEYmark Posted July 17, 2004 Share Posted July 17, 2004 i went from 17" volk rims when i bought car. they were so wrong for car, wrong stud pattern and they had relocating spacers the used to sick out too far on rear, when you put your foot down and back end dropped and caught on they tyres. took a while to suss what was wrong. then i bought some 19x8`s which were bought for looks. now sold them and gone to some stock wheels painted black. i love the look and feel of stock wheels with wide tyres. running 285`s on old 17" volk wheels with 265 tyres they looked fairly wide. but 19`s with 265 looksed more like 235 than 265 19`s curb so easy. 19`s look good but expensive on tyres with low profiles 17`s supposed to handle well and cheap to replace tyres. it get hard when you want to go pretty wide as not many do wide tyres for 17`s i dont think i would go back to 19`s or even 18`s Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It always amazes me that people will go for more power before dealing with the obvious shortcomings of the (J-spec) car, which are the brakes. Some aftermarket wheels are great, but there are many that will totally destroy the handling of your car. Until you have tried the stock setup, you will never know which ones you have. Mine had correct offsets and no wheelspacers and correct tyre pressures. When you start modding and changing stuff then its always going to be a trade off with what toyota did in the beginning as they spent a fortune on R & D. Hi Paul, I guess you bought my wheels off Ibrar hope you havnt got any probs with them as i never did, apart from keeping them clean Think fronts were 34psi and rears 36psi. 9x18 fr and 10x18 rear wheel size 245x40x18 and 285x35x18 tyre size Goodyear GD3's and Conti sports, used both makes of tyre and apart from as i said earlier only a bit of tramlineing on bad rds. I think they actually made my car better to drive than on the 17's as you get a bit more grip with more rubber on the rd and less tyre roll through having lower profile tyres. Dunk No problems with the wheels so far, other than the rims being a bitch to keep clean if you don't clean them regularly I'm running 34psi at the front and 32 at the rear, so will try 36 next time. I'm also running 235 & 275 , but I doubt the 10mm would make a difference. Its supposed to work very well, think terminator (phil) is actually trying some now, so we'll have a couple of good tests on the stuff.
