Gazboy
Ok, that sounds like a totally retarded thing to do!
Paul_SWZ
Best thing to do is strip it down and get the head pressure tested and inspected if you cant see anything obvious ! Then go from there either another head or just replace the gasket !
Bob
Have you tried Turbofit for a quote?
Kranz
Why are you assuming the head is cracked?? I've not heard of heads cracking easily esp. on an NA. BHGs while uncommon do happen. Not assuming, just covering all options. Its always best to know what the possibilities are before getting into something
JustGav
Not assuming, just covering all options. Its always best to know what the possibilities are before getting into something I understand giving worst case scenarios, but if you read the thread, it has gone from a suspected cracked head to doing an entire engine swap...bit extreme if it is just a HG... Kranz
An engine swap may be more cost effective and actually easier than a HG job.... especially if entrusted to a local garage that have the potential of completely fcuking the head gasket up. And its also a good time to upgrade to a TT Just my humble opinion.... And another option....

I would have thought it would be easier to do the HG rather than disconnect the engine and take the whole thing out.. esp. since you have the take the manifolds off anyway.. Kranz
When I used to do engine swaps for a job I could do a stop to start turnaround time from one engine to the next of 35 minutes. Doubt I could do this with a Supe (that was an old IDI ford diesel), or get anywhere close to 4 hours...... but I'll bet that the likes of Turbofit could pull one out & slip a new one in damn quick!! Purchase cost of a good NA engine and a fast engine swap would probably turn out less than parts & labour for a head gasket; and then there's the possibility of the head needing skimming (quite high chance this will be needed) or even welding or a new head if its totally bananna shaped. Paul_SWZ
We can do it for £500 plus parts and head testing !
Kranz
We can do it for £500 plus parts and head testing ! How much inc parts, testing, a skim (if needed, so best to budget for it) and vat & additional costs??
Paul_SWZ
No more than £1000 all in and if it goes over SWZ will swallow the extra!
cookci
Ok, that sounds like a totally retarded thing to do! are you trying to upset someone? obviously you dont know much about this modification! Putting an electric fan on is probably more retarded! I admit that one! No more than £1000 all in and if it goes over SWZ will swallow the extra! thats not a bad price at all! Ive actually taken my car to engine specialists in macclesfield now... they are looking at it for me for nothing to give me a full quote. Chris Wilson has also revised his offer, which is very tempting too! I would of booked it in with him if i had this offer yesterday. i'll let him know either way if i still require his services
