Diesel cars

Recommended Posts

I have moved offices and now have to travel around 90 miles per day with no petrol allowance :(

Obviously, using a Supra would be rather silly so i am thinking of getting a diesel car. I initially thought of one of those little Smart things but, as my son pointed out, I am such a large chap I would probably look like Big ears driving around in it :(

Any other suggestions? Oh, and I don't want to spend any more than £3000 :D

I know somebody who runs an old Audi diesel and swears by it. It's got about a zillion miles on it and still sails through the MOT every year.

My last two company diesels have been a Passat and a Mondeo and they were both great on long runs. My wife has a BMW 320d and that is really quick and does over 50 mpg. She fills it up every 6 weeks!!:D The Audi is a good engine too!!

Would it? Taking into account the £3K you'll spend on the car plus the cost of MOT, tax, insurance and maintenance you could easily spend that on the extra fuel cost of driving the Supra as a main car.

I was going to buy a diesel runabout but after doing the maths I was still better off running the Supe as my daily driver. Remember unless you SORN for 6 months or whatever, you still need to pay tax, insurance, MOT etc for the Supe for a full year.

Did this include depreciation due to the mileage? 90 miles a day is almost 2K per month, and people don't like buying high mileage cars - especially not sports cars.

Plus I would still have to buy a Supra as all the ones I have sell straight away :)

Now things get complicated. Easy remedy but very immoral! You could always do what a mate of mine does - disconnect the speedo. :) May affect something else if the ECU relies on it.

I love my mondeo, but I have the juicy 2.5. I also used to have the Mk1 TD mondeo which was a horrific car, so if you're going diesel on the mondeo make sure you go for the mk3 onwards as they as I understand are a bit more gutsy.
