Just started training myself at the start of the year, bit of a new years resolution have been using myprotein.co.uk 's Unflavoured Whey Protein Concentrate 80 (EURO)

You cant beat it for value for money.

If you go here http://www.myprotein.co.uk/?page=online-price-matcher and put in the following site into there online price matcher http://www.sports-nutrition.net you'll get it even cheaper at 22.93 and p & p included. Also if you use my referal code MP11852 you shud get 5% off your first order.

Its a big tub too shud keep you going for a few months, i just mix it with water and its not too bad.

A lot of the supplements out there are overpriced imo with big marketing schemes/bright labels, dont have any experience of the product you mention tho.

Guys have any off you used this to supplement your training?? im thinking of buying a tub as my job stops me from getting enough protein when im training so need a quick fix?

This all depends on what your aim is.

Are you body building or just going for a good shape?

If you are body building I would go for Dorian Yates Pro Mass.

This tastes quite nice and is basically full of calories , carbs and proteins.

With this it would be a case of putting a lot of muscle mass on and also some fat .You would have to strip down later on a high protein low carb supplement like as said above Reflex instant whey.

If you are simply going for improved muscle mass I would use something like Reflex simple whey as you will gain lean muscle only.

I would double up the servings to 40g .

There is so many good supplements about these days you are spoilt for choice.

Im with Rayman

Get unflavoured Whey. You don't pay a premium for flavourings that are added and it is better value.

If the taste is off putting then buy a tub of nesquik and add a teaspoon (watch the sugar though)

The best thing i found for mixing supllements is a cappucino whisker (the little hand held propellor)

I use this too.

To mix it I use a plastic drinks bottle with lid, fill it half full with water and then add the powder and shake a few times. No lumps at all and it's very easy to clean.

i have used 90+ its ok they are all pretty much as good as each other .For strength training worry more about quantity of food more than anything else. i can get strong on a diet of crap as long as its a big heap of it;)

trouble is I dont want to lose the shape I have at the moment, I know im naturally going to put a little weight on if im starting a bulking diet, ive always been a hard gainer myself or maybe not, perhaps im not eating enough food

im going back to the old 3 eggs and brown toast in the morning, protein shake + 4 wheatabix between breakfast and lunch

Tuna sarnies at lunch, pasta before my workout, protein shake straight after and dinner shortly after that

My strength training is very heavy compund movements 3-5 reps hardly never to failure prob 1-2 reps short 5 times a week

I dont agree with all this supplement shit. I've been training for ten years now.

I used to take the shakes, aminos, creatine andvitamins. Used to spend a fortune.

I didn't really see any major gains, apart from a bigger gut!!

Now i eat a healthy diet with a bit more protein in from chicken, fish, eggs etc. Basically it meat with every meal, or a six egg omelette.

I've not lost any muscle mass.

I think its all bollocks unless your into steriods and bodybuilding is your life.

I totally understand what you are saying however IMO you don’t need to take any supplements IF you can eat enough at the right time to get enough protein. If you can’t eat enough or just get so sick of having to eat more eggs, more chicken breasts or you just can stomach any more tuna then a protein shake is an excellent way to bump up your protein intake plus it’s cheaper than buying food and it tastes good.

The average person has about 90 grams of protein a day. Most average weight trainers need to double that.

Average grams of protein:

Chicken breast 30 - 35

Tin of tuna 30 -35

1 egg 5 - 10

It really doesn't take a great deal to get 180 grams of protein a day. Granted, a protein shake will have about 30 grams in it, but unless you buy the real expensive stuff it will be filled with sugar and additves to make it taste better.

You can hace a six egg omlette using six egg whites and 3 yolks. giving you about 45 grams of protein.

The nutrition experts say to build muscle you want to be aiming at 1 gram of protein per pound in body weight.

You really want to be spreading your protein intake out over the day-no more than 50 grams every 2.5 hours.

The supplements as said above are only an alternative to if you can not get the right amount of proteins, carbs in your normal everyday diet.

The main advantages are that they have all the amino acids ,glutamines etc to shuttle the protein into your muscles and break down and rebuild the muscle properly.

i was always told 2 grames per pound :D . I think the main advantage of the supplements is that you don't have to prepare anything (cook your chicken or omelette) you can blitz up a milkshake and have your 30 grammes of protein in 20 seconds. this is particulalrly useful for those that don't get long for lunch or are busy.

I find it hard to physically eat that much protein (i weigh 165 lbs)

Not to mention the cost as well.
