RedM
We have a really old fridge (Frigidaire R1524H) with one of those god awful freezer compartments. It's forever creating more and more ice no matter what setting we have it at. It once got so bad that the door was actually pushed open! The thing is we never use that part of the fridge and we have a proper freezer so, my question is this, can the freezer box part be switched off and, if so, how? Obviously, we have no manual and I can't find one the net.
geoffvalenti
Unlikely that you'll be able to turn the freezer compartment off. TBH, it sounds like a bin job

RedM
We thought about a new one but the problem is that the one we have now is part of the flat we rent. When we move we'd either have to leave it or pay for a new one. So we kind of pay twice. I've just noticed that on the temp control wheel you can turn the whole thing off but there is also a nobule sticking out the side of it that can be pressed in. I've always assumed this was just part of the design. Could it be an off switch for the freezer? I'd press it but with the fridge now restocked and operating if it was to defrost it'd be while we are out.
