merckx
I've just received a letter in the post from Parcelforce asking for £46 import duty for the parcel they're holding for me. Is it normal practice to receive this demand and then you have to pay before they deliver the item. The reason I'm asking is that Parcelforce actually delivered the parcel today too without me making any payment. Can I get away without paying as it looks like they've made a cockup? Class One
The short answer is no. Parcelforce will have paid your import duty and vat on your behalf. They have done this to clear your goods through customs, otherwise they would have to be held until cleared and you would incur charges by doing so. You now owe them money, so they will seek to get the money from you.The fact that they delivered them does not negate the money that you owe. 2JG
Strange thing for Parcelforce to do? They've always held my items until I've coughed up the money. FedEx do the same thing, actually deliver the item to you and then like a week later send you the import bill

mkirby
Aye sometimes the drivers forget to take the money but you can call up or visit the local depot and pay them direct Mike
