Nic
Interesting how the model and the real aircraft seem to crash in the same way.
garethr
Avro Vulcan not crashing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xntzPg5x7m0 According to this "There was already some talk of maybe trying some other ridiculous maneuvers. His lifetime goal was to roll the B-52." Perhaps he'd heard about the Vulcan......

SupraStar 3000
I have piloted a Vulcan, long time ago now really!!! WOW Been in the cockpit of a Vulcan and couldn't believe how disorienting and clostrophic it was. Would fancy getting out in a hurry Anyone know how that project is going to get one flying again? What a great icon for British engineering

SupraStar 3000
Steve, Don't forget, we ARE having a meet on the maiden flight of the restored vulcan.
edd_t
the vulcans look cool. have only ever been in the cockpit of one, up in harwich somewhere. my grandad used to work on them (he had flat feet so couldnt go into battle during the war so became and engineer) but he worked on 3 types of V bombers, the Vulcan, Victor and Valiant afterwards. The Vulcan at Duxford he worked on. I made a B52 bomber 1/72 scale when i was about 12, it was massive, the wing span was nearly wide as my bedroom! lust2luv
According to this "There was already some talk of maybe trying some other ridiculous maneuvers. His lifetime goal was to roll the B-52." Perhaps he'd heard about the Vulcan...... Reading that Lt Holland sounds like a first class tit - did he model himself on the B52 pilot from Dr Strangelove or something? Lt McGeehan sounds a brave man - there's no way I'd have continued flying with him.
garethr
Anyone know how that project is going to get one flying again? This one? http://www.tvoc.co.uk/ I think there are one or two others (http://www.avrovulcan.com/ for one), but this is the most likely to succeed. EDIT: List of the surviving Vulcans http://www.avrovulcan.com/surviving_vulcans.htm
Nick
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bud_Holland After reading that I thought of the film Air America... Be great to see the Vulcan flying again. Remember watching the airshow at Biggin Hill as a kid, and listening to all the car alarms after it had powered through the valley, awesome sound:thumbs:
SUPRASUZUKI
I remember watching a programme where they showed you the B52 turning and crashing. The pilot was described as reckless for some of the things he got up to. He seemed to think his B52 was a Spitfire (or similar). The tosser should have been court marshalled well before he had chance to crash. Shame for the crew, I reckon.
SupraStar 3000
When turning like that the pilot is actually pulling back on the stick (pitch) whilst balancing the angle of yaw and roll. When the airctaft moves over the point of inverted flight the wings stop generating lift, then gravity suddenly pulls the aircraft down in a unpredictable way. I think thats what you see in both videos.

Oddball
I know there was one at Blackpool airport. Some guy who owned a pub bought it for his beer garden but had no way of transporting it. Not sure of the outcome. I remember seeing one at Barton airshow in Manchester ages ago. They are so bloody loud!!

That would be incredible to see one flying again.
garethr
There's a "Cold War" exhibit at Cosford, where they have examples of all three V-bombers -- Vulcan, Victor, and Valiant.
