RedM
Trading standards officials have launched an investigation after drivers complained that they had been sold "contaminated" fuel. Drivers from across south-east England believe they may have been sold petrol containing ethanol, which has damaged their cars. Their vehicles have been juddering, misfiring and had a loss of power. Wez
Bio Fuel is Ethanol made from natural resources. Greenenergy produce it and Tesco 99 Ron I believe contains 12-15%, that how they get the increased RON number.
Dave
i heard this just as i was coming out of tescos with a 1/2 tank of fuel fortunately its not in wales. phew!
Guest dturne81
The contamination is causing O2 sensors to read rich which in turn makes the ECU run the engine leaner..... Beware guys. I think this may also be affecting the Wideband gauges too....
Pot
Seems to be mainly in the South East according to Radio 1 and that story, but there are also reports from the rest of the country... So I'm not taking any chances... There may be some interesting claims appearing then, but how can you prove it was 'that load of fuel' that gave you problems?... spaxy
yeah we have it here in cambridge,i work for toyota but we are a multi franchise site, and the peugeot dealership have had a spate of problems with 15 vehicles waiting for oxygen sensors, and the ford workshop have 8 on order.well bad,ib think if you stick to main brands should be ok. Cant see that being too much of a problem, as if there is enough ethanol or alcohol in the fuel to show more unburnt oxygen in the lambda feedback, and the ECU pulls more fuel it should be fine ie like adding an octane additive, it also wouldn't cause any harm to the sensor. I suspect that somehow there is something like silicone got into the fuel which will kill a lambda sensor in seconds, also unless the fuel is contaminated with enough of whatever, it wouldn't stop the engine running. Pig
The sensors are being killed. All the cars we have had in are for new sensors!
