Science vs Faith

As for this, I can answer it: It doesn't make me better or worse, I'm me because of who I am not what I believe. I happen to think that religous 'nuts' are more likely to change the person that they are based on beliefs than an Aethiest would, but at the end of the day it's what you do that defines you. I've never said anyones beliefs are wrong and I don't try and force my beliefs on anyone else - I talk about what I think and listen to what others have to say.

I read it as if you were putting down science in favour of religion, I personally wouldn't claim one is any better than the other in terms of what it's given to (or taken from) the species, if you were simply giving info and not claiming me to be a racist genocidal maniac because I'm a scientist than I obviously misread it and oppologise.

Nothing aimed at you or anyone else, just a general discussion, and its hard to use the written word in a fashion that doesnt tread a little on someones toes I guess.

Some people need to feel that they're part of a bigger picture, that their life means something and they're here for a reason and once they die they will continue to live on in one way or another. Religion gives you a family, a sense of belonging or comfort from the unknown in this big scary world.

It's also a great way for those in power to manipulate and control the masses.

It's not easy to accept that in the great scheme of things your life is utterly insignificant and once you're gone you'll soon be forgotten. Try and make the best use of the time you have.

Yeah, but admit it... the flow chart was good though ;)

I say again, anyone for a beer (or soft beverage if your particular brand of systematic belief contravenes the use of fermented grape or grain products!?)?

Agreed, apart from an individual's life being insignificant, the average person just by existing affects how many things? & how many people, 100s 1000s 1000000s? around the world in profound & subtle ways, now magnify this over time, OK one little nomadic eskimo would have a much less.

I should have been more specific. When I say in the great scheme of things, I mean in the whole of space and time as we know it. Our galaxy, let alone our planet is a spec, so what does that make me?

Or course, we're all significant in one way or another to friends and family and we all have to share the same planet. The action of one person can, as you say, affects 10000000s of people.

As we are not participating in any possible? universal events, i stand corrected.
