stuohy
Bit of advice needed here... I'm thinking of getting a (really cheap) second car in which to commute to work, as I am currently paying nearly £70 a week in fuel (plus the miles on the car etc). If I spent around £300 on a cheapy car (1 litre engine type thing), this would halve my fuel bill, although I'd have more tax/insurance to pay. Does this sound like a good idea? Havard
Get something small and shite like a Peugeot 205 ot 106 diesel. I'll have a look about for a bargain banger. Rover 218D would be dirt cheap too!! H.
tooquicktostop
I do it, have owned several REALLY cheap cars alongside the Supra including a Fiat Uno, Mondeo 2.0 auto, and now a Volvo 740 GLE, all of them cost £400 or less and I spend nothing on them except oil and filter and run them for a while, crazy thing is when you sell you get your money back as well ! The volvo is for sale if you are interested as I just brought an S Class merc today for £

I know they are so cheap and never break down, I have had mine for 3 months and apart from Oil I have done nothing and it cost me £400, it has full leather with heated front seats, massive space in boot, good fuel consumption and are as safe as houses

stuohy
Thanks for the suggestions guys... I will look into something diesel For those that have second cars, how do you go about insuring them? Do you have a seperate policy, or are they on your supra policy? Guru
I did the same thing back in Sept 06. Spent £1400 and got a 1.9D Polo. In a year I save £1500 in fuel and then the mileage saves a lot too. Do it!
DaveK
It will only work if you can avoid wanting to drive the Supra though. The reason I have the Supra is because my previous daily car (Focus) was just too boring, and I found I always wanted to drive the 964 and struggled to keep within it's limited mileage policy. I decided the sensible choice was to bin the Focus and buy something less boring - so got the Supra as the daily car. Now, although I do enjoy the 964 (a lot!) when I use it, I don't feel I NEED to use it every time I drive further than a couple of miles. If you're like me, you may find you leave your dull cheap car at home quite a lot.

how_supra
Me too Im running a second car after I was spending £60 a week on petrol [now Im driving further], so my £400 runaround has paid for it self already. [now Im doing 100 miles a day] Have you tried ringing your local dealers up, to see if they have any old "bangers" they PX'd and don't have advertised for sale?
