Guest neil111
Hi all, Im looking to replace my FTO possibly with a Supra TT, I do a lot of motorway driving and was just wondering how noisey they are ie. wind and road noise? Thanks in advance.
cashpoint
Depend really on the exhaust, std is nice an silent, Nur spec with the bafle doesn't make much noise, nor do any of the exhaust with their baffles in. It's only when you take them out the nosie level goes up. Done Hemel to Bristol (220 mile round trip )a couple of times and with the baffle in i quite happly cruise at 80 - 90 with out any problem
geoffvalenti
RSR with the baffle out, is great. Nice and burbly round town, noisy when you give it some stick, but quiet on the motorway when cruising. The road noise is the worse thing with the Supra, but aparently with a bit of sound deadening material that can be sorted as well.
Nic
Road noise will also depend on the suspension set up and wheel/tyre sizes, lowered stiffer suspension and larger wheels with wider, thinner walled tyres will cause more road noise/vibration. Bobbeh
In stock form they're slient. The only thing you'd hear is the engine purring
Grazer
Nur Spec - baffle out. It's really noisy and I love it
supradibbs
one thing you prob hear will be the boot alot of supras sufer from the mounts at the back of the boot can easily be sorted by packing them out or buying replacments from toyota rattling knocking sound take my sup for example i have a boot that kocks and rattles but then is amplified by the fact i have hks supension adjusted right down and runnig 19" wheels so i would say mine is worse than most but supras are well made cars so you should not have any problems:thumbs:

Sure your going over 50mph?? Are both your cats out? mine are, perhaps thats why it's louder? Paul.

The supra in stock form is a very quiet car IMO, and i'd be suprised if it wasn't an improvent over the FTO in this respect (never been in a FTO btw so can't really say!) Mine is only noisey when you're cruising around 100mph (in Germany of course) due to the resonance and when you floor it, otherwise its very mild mannered which is why I love it. martynb
Interesting question isn't it? Elsewhere I have a thread on this very subject (search on road noise) and it depends very much on the road surface. We have by some miracle a new stretch of flat tarmac not far from me and it is nearly silent there but on concrete motorways it is a long way off being quiet. Sound deadening definitely called for as in these conditions the noise generated is really wearing on a long journey.

If you give it some stick, it really speaks

It really depends what you're used to. I've come from the American V8 scene, so anything is quiet compared with a 7 litre car with Cherry bombs. Before I put my RSR on, I started the car up with no exhaust, just the cats, I wasn't really impressed, and in all honesty I think that you could get away with a straight through pipe from the cats back, without encountering too many problems. FFS they do it all the time on TVRs so the Supra should be no probs. The RSR, to my mind, sounds great, minimal silencing but not too boomy. As always YMMV, but to be honest, I can listen to the sound of open pipes (preferably V8) all day. I went to a tractor pulling meet a few weeks ago, all V8, all open headers, fcuking ectasy, I had tears in my eyes
trooper
Fear not Neil111, I briefly had a Jaguar XJ8 4.0 before getting the Supra (hated it by the way) and I've found the Supra to be just as quiet as the Jag on most road surfaces. There is more road noise on poor (concrete) surfaces but less wind and engine noise than at all times. It also has more somfrtable seats, a better stereo, better brakes, steering. Goes on ad-nausium. mr keef
Got a 5zigen zorst and its quiet as a mouse, whatya mean about taking the baffles out?can i do this?if so how? cheers all
Guest Atomaton
Anyone got any exhaust sound files? My pipe's sh4gged and fancy either the NUR,HKS or RSR just from what i've read so far. Hate these ones where you get a raspie type sound... and hang underneath the motor like a drain pipe with no support.. Am a fussy bugger me. mr keef
I got like a box just before the backbox, is this where the baffles are?,i got both the cats removed,so i think this seems to be the only place i can thing of,unless the baffles are in the backbox??? helpppppppppppppppppp??????????????? Grazer
Only some exhausts have a removable baffle. I know the Nur Spec does and the HKS Dragger doesn't (the 2 I've owned).
