Mike B
I was about to start ranting when I began reading this thread, but most of the points have been said here already and I am pleased to see that quite a few people see the bigger picture. Wow, thanks for posting, that's sobering reading. I have family who work in the NHS and from what hear it's no better at management level either. Everything is fairly corrupt and the wrong people keep getting promoted for unethical reasons. I have nothing but respect for 95% of the NHS emplyees. When I visit a hospital I feel as sorry for the staff as I do for the patients. It's not a good atmosphere for healing. A relative of mine just died of a superbug strain he caught in hospital after an exam; knicking his bowl. His insides were green goo within 4 days, healthy bloke, it gave him no chance of survival. I wonder what will happen 15 years into the future? I have a feeling things will things get worse, forcing more who work and know whats going on in the country to go private and the NHS will ultimately continue to deteriarate. Pretty much what they have in the states. All you can do is concentrate in your life and make sure you are economically effective and have enough income to protect yourself long term... they say that money can't buy happiness, but it may well help keep you alive if you are unlucky. Beating the odds in a serious heath scare would make me happy, for sure! I don't pretend to know how fair damage awards are in the UK regarding this sort of thing, but from stories I hear of people who have been to see high level magistrates and judges with sobering tales, so I have my doubts that they see the big picture either; My colleague took a watertight commerce action to a high court judge who fell asleap in session - whoever woke him up lost the case according the the solicitors; so they just let him sleep. Eventually my colleague was so incensed he picked up a file and dropped it on the floor with a bang, Judge woke up, saw who did it, and after that the judge had a paddy and pretty much threw the case out there and then. I guess if people were not making money on all but the genuine cases then the culture wouldn't exist over here at all. Sad really; I'd like to be proud of the UK but I don't feel the love anymore!
