Paul -C-
I got hold of a second hand double decat pipe so I got it put on yesterday. I still have the standard cat-back and the car is a j-spec. Do you think I need to get a restrictor ring on it? I thought I'd leave it out to see what kind of boost the cat-back was restricting me to. But my stock spark plugs won't let me boost too high, so I'm waiting on Denso's. So... should I take a chance and see what boost I get as it is, or should I play it safe and get the restrictor ring on? Cheers
Paul -C-
Just to add... My plan was to wait and see if this setup triggered fuel cut, in which case I'll buy an FCC and get the restrictor ring on. If it doesn't trigger fuel cut then it would mean it's not going over 1 bar, so I should be safe. I didn't realise the stock plugs wouldn't be up to the job, but they're not too expensive so it doesn't matter much
Jake
You have a Boost Gauge, right? See what it boosts too, fit a restrictor plate if it's boosting higher than you want it to. It probably will do though.

But I'm a bit worried about blowing the engine up after speaking to Gaz when I was ordering the plugs
Jake
After decatting I ran mine at 1.25 bar, with no restrictor ring and on the stock fuel pump, for 7 months. I used to hit the raised cut from the FCD all the time but I never blew the engine up. I was running cooler than stock plugs though. I've recently added a Walbro pump and a restrictor plate. Terminator
The stock box is very restrictive, so just check you guage you may be OK.
ChrisR
I decatted first and left the stock cat back exhaust fitted and only saw 0.9 BAR with plugs changed. I only fitted a fuel cut defenser in readiness for the aftermarket exhaust. And to add 0.9 was a bad thing, although only a small increase over stock, responsivness was gretaly improved EDIT: Oops i meant to say 0.9 wasnt a bad thing
