michael
I don't remember why we have pancakes, does anyone know? Because we like the taste of them. Or because we still cling on to old religious nonsense as an excuse to pig out? The last three days before the beginning of Lent is known as Shrovetide. The old names for these days were: Quinquagesima Sunday - Shrove Sunday The fiftieth day before Easter Collop Monday - Shrove Monday Named after the traditional dish of the day: collops of bacon served with eggs. In addition to providing little meat, the collops were also the source of the fat for the following day's pancakes. Pancake Day - Shrove Tuesday The day on which all fats and cream had to be used up. I guess we're lucky in the fact we could both get through 870 chocolate covered pancakes each and only put on 0.4 grams.
